Lawrence Kahn Law Group, P.S.

Firm Overview

For nearly a quarter century, I've practiced law handling serious, too often tough catastrophic injuries and wrongful death cases caused by car, truck, motorcycle, bicycle, and pedestrian collisions. Every case is a humbling opportunity for me to represent good people in bad straits and to learn something new so it can be taught to a jury in an interesting and exciting way.

We serve our clients throughout Washington State though most come from King County, Snohomish County and Pierce County.

My motivation stems from my passion to properly help the injured and vulnerable. I have represented many good folks who have suffered Personal Injury, Wrongful Death and Nursing Home Injury since 1986. When appropriate, I work with clients to bring about significant institutional change in addition to maximizing our client's monetary compensation. This change can help prevent future injuries to others and can provide significant meaning to the injuries loved ones have sustained.

We handle personal injury cases involving Automobile Accidents, Auto/Pedestrian Accidents, Truck Accidents, Motorcycle Accidents, Defective Roadways, Premises Liability, Slip, Trip & Fall Accidents, Defective Staircases, Defective Sidewalks, Electrocution, Property Hazard, Construction Accidents, Spinal Cord Injury and Brain Injury.

We also handle Wrongful Death Cases: A wrongful death claim may arise out of a number of circumstances, including medical malpractice, automobile, boat, bicycle, motorcycle, train or airplane accident, swimming, product defect, occupational exposure to hazardous conditions or substances and criminal behavior. Obviously, this is not an all inclusive list. When someone is killed due to another's negligence, it is a wrongful death generally entitled to a recovery of damages.

Medical Malpractice: Medical malpractice is an act or omission by a health care provider in which care provided deviates from the standard of practice in the medical community and causes injury or death to the patient. Not every injury resulting from health care constitutes medical malpractice. However, if you are injured as a result of a health care incident, you should not wait to seek the advice of an attorney experienced in the field of medical malpractice.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

In handling these cases, particularly when death and the loss of a loved one is involved, I understand and appreciate the sensitive and, in my view, sacred trust involved in seeking justice for the victim and their family. I feel like I have done some good and I hope to do much more. It's a good way to make a living when it's going well yet a very challenging way to make a living because of my commitment.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I strongly encourage client participation and active learning of the legal issues involved in their case. We foster this knowledge at every opportunity encouraging open and frequent communication with our clients. There are no stupid questions. No client is ever "bothering" me with such a question. I work for the client not the other way around. I give all my clients my cell phone number and encourage them to contact me either by phone or email at night or over the weekend.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I'm always happy to do so.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I've written a Guide entitled, "Don't Ruin Your Personal Injury Claim"

I've been through and seen very personal tragedies, injuries and deaths in my family and amongst my friends at a pretty young age. My sense of compassion, justice and a sense of the sacred trust one should have in representing those going through the same types of things come directly from these experiences. When combined with my tough upbringing in Newark, New Jersey, my faith, my willingness to fight (but not so much physically any more) and my tenacious willingness to do whatever it takes to win within the bounds of ethics and law, I believe I am a better lawyer for it. I'd like to think I am a better person for it, too.

Tenacious. Knowledgeable and trial tested. I connect with clients and jurors because I think like them. I am one of those who believe that who you are and what you do for a living are two different things. I think humorous self deprecation in a legal world full of egos keeps me humble. I try not to take myself too seriously while taking the cases and challenges very seriously. I don't seek to impress people with my intellect, knowledge and experience. I begin every case believing that the attorney on the other side is better educated, better financed and, likely, better looking than me. No one will be better prepared than me however. I don't try to talk above juror's heads, I talk to them like a regular friend or coworker to bring my client's story to them plainly, compassionately, knowledgeably and with good humor.
