The firm specializes in civil litigation matters in both state and federal court. One area of our practice includes the defense of individuals who have been sued on credit card, medical bills and other debt. These lawsuits may be by the original creditor or by debt-buyers. We attempt to settle these debts for amounts that are substantially less than the amounts which are being sought.

Additionally, the firm represents individuals who have been harassed by debt collectors. Such harassment includes repeatedly calling, calling at inconvenient times, seeking payment for debts which are not owed, adding unlawful interest and other charges, and other forms of collection harassment and unlawful collection activity. When we represent individuals under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA), our fees our paid by the other side, and not by the client. How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I enjoy helping people, and find that when I defend individuals who are being sued and harassed by creditors that I usually can get a good result and reduce my client's anxiety and stress regarding such matters.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others

I have practiced law for 25 years, many of which have been as a solo practitioner and am sensitive to the needs of individuals

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

As I solo practitioner, I personally handle all my cases and speak directly with my clients. As such, I get to know each of clients and they are not just a name on a manila folder.

Lawrence Hersh, Esq. has been admitted to practice law for over 25 years, and is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, California and Illinois. He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to starting his own firm, Lawrence worked at the large New York law firm of Kaye Scholer LLP and the New Jersey intellectual property boutique law firm of Weingram and Associates. For the last several years, he has spent a considerable amount of time representing consumers, including in such matters as debt defense and collection harassment.
