Firm Overview

The overall focus of my firm is to provide the best legal service possible to consumers at a reasonable price. We handle Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies but also provide debt settlement services to those clients that either wish to avoid a bankruptcy or cannot qualify for a bankruptcy. Either way we help people relieve the burden of overwhelming debt so that they can get back to starting over and enjoying life. In addition, we also handle civil litigation matters and personal injury cases.

Example cases

Example one: Client was a self-employed photographer. He experienced a down turn in business as a result of the poor economy. As a result he fell behind on some of his credit card payments and he was sued by 3 of his creditors, each of whom obtained judgments against him. He had no choice other than to file bankruptcy as he had no access to the funds necessary to settle his debts. He had an ownership interest in 2 properties, both of which had equity. He also owned 3 older vehicles and had business equipment worth more than $15,000. In short, he was not able to exempt all of his assets and was worried that the trustee would take one or both of his properties, or his cars, if he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. We filed a Chapter 7 for him and he was able to keep ALL of his property while getting a discharge and wiping out the 3 judgments that were imposed against him by the credit card companies. Example 2: Client was a single woman who earned too much money to file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. However, she had over $50,000 in credit card debt and she stopped paying her cards 6 months earlier. The credit card companies hired debt collectors and attorneys to pursue their rights against her. She was about to be sued by 2 of her creditors when she hired me to negotiate with them in an attempt to settle their claims for less than 50 percent. I was able to settle all of the credit card claims against her for less than 40 percent and she was allowed to make monthly payments to 2 of the creditors. We saved her thousands of dollars by settling with the creditors under a threat of a possible bankruptcy.

Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

The client is hiring me so I do all of the actual legal work. Staff members are utilized for the purpose of interacting with clients, setting up appointments, gathering documents and inputting information into the computer. The legal work is always done be me and the client can always count on being able to reach me and communicate with me on all aspects of the case in question.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

I believe in mediation and arbitration as very effective ways to resolve disputes before a client is forced to spend money unnecessarily in litigation. However, not every case can or should be settled prior to trial. Those cases need to be litigated with skill and expertise. I can provide the skill and expertise necessary in those instances.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

I have provided, and I will continue to provide, free legal services to those people that truly need it. I believe in giving back for so many reasons.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

My firm is not the typical law firm. You can feel it right away from the minute you walk in my office. We try and provide a comfortable setting, not an intimidating setting. My clients are often going through a difficult time and it is important that they know that when they hire me and my firm they are getting passionate professionals on their side and they will be treated with the utmost respect.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I am always in favor of client's educating themselves on legal issues. After all, knowledge is power! I do warn clients that some of the information that is available on the internet is unreliable. Often times you cannot confirm the source of the information. Thus, it is always best to check with an attorney to make sure the information is accurate.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes, we do that very often

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Yes.

Brent George

I have been a practicing attorney for 18 years. I spent the first 15 years working for a few different law firms of various sizes. During this period I developed the skills I have and use every day. The skills I developed not only relate to the practice of law and litigation but also relate to handling clients as people and individuals who have specific needs and goals. I now have my own practice where I passionately represent my clients working hard every day so that I can meet each of their needs and goals.
