DUI and DWI

DWI defense requires a deep understanding of the tests administered by police officers to try to determine intoxication.

To properly represent a client charged with DWI, an attorney must know how to attack the tests administered by the police, including the Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) and the chemical test (breath, blood or urine). Michael Litman has experience representing clients charged with DWI at all stages of litigation including trial. Call now so he can put his knowledge of DWI litigation to work for you.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Not only is the defense of someone accused of a crime a fundamental and constitutional right of every individual in the US, it is also the most interesting area of law to practice in. Michael Litman went to law school, and became an attorney solely to practice in the area of Criminal and DWI defense.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

The Law Office of Michael D. Litman is different from other firms because our only focus is Criminal and DWI defense. Most other law firms have multiple practice areas, such as real estate, personal injury and wills, while we only focus on defending you.

Law Office of Michael D. Litman, PLLC
Michael Litman

Michael Litman is the principal attorney at the Law Office of Michael D. Litman. Mr. Litman has been focusing on criminal and DWI/DUI defense for his entire legal career. He has represented hundreds of clients accused of all levels of misdemeanors and felonies, including drug crimes, DWI, larceny, robbery, burglary, ID theft and sex crimes.

Mr. Litman went to law school to work as a criminal defense attorney, and focused his studies on classes related to the Constitution (specifically the 4th, 5th and 6th Amendments), as well as trial technique classes. Mr. Litman had numerous internships during law school in both prosecutor's and public defender's offices, gaining great insight into the inner workings of both sides of the criminal justice system.

Ultimately, after graduating from Albany Law School, Mr. Litman started working as an Staff Attorney at the Nassau County Legal Aid Society. While working there over three and a half years, he learned all aspects of criminal and DWI defense, and spent thousands of hours of in court representing clients accused of felony and misdemeanor crimes. During his tenure, he litigated dozens of suppression hearings (Mapp, Huntley, Dunaway, Wade, etc.) and successfully defended clients in multiple jury trials. Prior to leaving Legal Aid, Mr. Litman was handling all of the felony DWI cases for Legal Aid, and advising the junior attorneys of the methods used to represent clients charged with DWIs.

When Mr. Litman left Nassau Legal Aid Society, it was to go into private practice, to be able to provide a more personal service to his clients, which he was unable to do at Legal Aid due to the large case load. After working as criminal defense counsel to an immigration law firm in Flushing, Queens, Mr. Litman joined a small criminal defense/personal injury/civil rights law firm in White Plains. While working there, he continued to represent clients in criminal cases around the NY area, and also gained experience in personal injury and civil rights cases. Many of the civil rights cases he worked on were closely related to the clients' prior criminal cases.

Mr. Litman started his own firm, the Law Office of Michael D. Litman, in 2014, to focus on criminal and DWI defense. Mr. Litman prides himself on being accessible to his clients, and makes sure that all of his clients know exactly what is going on with their case. He strives to provide his clients with the highest level of representation for a reasonable cost. The defense of someone accused of a crime is a fundamental right in a democratic society, and Mr. Litman zealously fights for the rights of his clients every step of the way!
