Firm Overview

I opened my firm on January 1, 2006. I have another full-time attorney that works with me and I have a wonderful assistant who has over 30 years experience working as a law firm administrator.

My firm focuses on family and individual needs such as estate planning, probate, asset protection, wills, trusts, guardianships and living wills.

Example cases

Successfully litigated a probate case in which a family attempted to exclude my client as a beneficiary of the estate. In the end, my client received his full share of the estate.

Fees

Free Initial Consultation?

I offer a free 30-minute consultation to Nolo customers.

Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

I often use flat fees that are determined on a case-by-case basis. I find that my clients like flat fees because they know what the price is before entering into a fee agreement and they understand exactly what they are receiving for the fee.

Hourly Rates

$200 to $250 (Nolo customers: $200.)

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

To work with people.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I encourage clients to educate themselves on the issues that affect their lives. My clients should understand the legal procedures as well as the law itself. That said, understanding the law and practicing law are two very different things. Experience in the practice of law can be more important than knowing the law.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I am happy to review any documents that are prepared by clients.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I would not want to represent myself in a legal proceeding, so I would not advise a client to use this approach. However, if a client's situation dictates that representing themselves is the only option, then I would help the client prepare and advise them on what to expect.

Lara A. Mason

I previously worked as an Assistant Attorney General prosecuting hundreds of child abuse cases in Tampa, Florida. In addition, I worked for a major personal injury firm focusing specifically on medical malpractice and nursing home abuse. This previous employment provided significant exposure to an unlimited array of legal issues and gave me invaluable courtroom experience.

I have been involved in the communities where I have lived my entire life. The experiences taught me to value what is right and wrong, not what is better for me. This is very important to me as a lawyer and I believe that it makes me a better lawyer.

I am a passionate litigator willing to fight for what is right. I have logged thousands of courtroom hours and have been lead counsel in many contested trials. However, when a fair result can be reached without court intervention, I would prefer to settle cases at minimal costs to my clients.

Personal interests:

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to the movies and exercising.
