Firm Overview

Landers & Cernigliaro, P.C. is a law firm specializing in handling medical malpractice cases throughout the State of New York with offices on Long Island. If you are unable to come to one of our offices for a free consultation we can arrange to visit with you at home, in the hospital, or at any other location convenient for you. We have successfully represented clients in cases involving cerebral palsy, brain damage, birth injury, Erb's palsy, failure to diagnose cancer, blood clots, stroke, heart attack, surgical mistakes, emergency room errors and many others. Through verdicts and settlements we have recovered hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of our clients.

Our reputation in this specialized area of the law is that we are quite selective as to what matters we accept, but once a matter is undertaken it is handled as expeditiously as possible with a very high likelihood of success. The foundation for our success is access to highly qualified physicians who we have developed relationships with over many years. These doctors help us screen cases from the beginning, making the road to a substantial recovery for our clients a much smoother one. Our office staff even includes a physician and surgeon who is also an attorney. Our belief is that the clients come first, and they are kept well informed of all progress from inception to conclusion.

All of our cases are handled on a contingency basis, meaning that there is no attorney fee unless there is a monetary recovery. Investigation usually takes approximately four to six weeks. Once a case is accepted, we are almost always able to finish all legal work and place the case on the trial calendar within nine months. The waiting time for a case to come to the top of the calendar for trial varies in each county within New York.

We represent clients from New York City to Buffalo and from Long Island to Albany and farther north. If you are in New York we are willing to help.

We only handle meritorious cases, and we make sure the medical malpractice claim has merit BEFORE we begin an action. Our case load is relatively SMALL, but our success rate is extremely HIGH.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Forty years ago Mr. Landers was referred a malpractice case just as he started his private practice. One case led to another and all of a sudden he had a specialty. Mr. Cernigliaro joined forces with him over 25 years ago, and they have not looked back.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others?

We have over 70 years of combined experience in pursuing medical malpractice cases in the most timely and ethical manner. Our ivy league educations provided us with a strong foundation upon which our practice was built.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

In addition to our accumulated knowledge of medicine, David Mayer, M.D.,J.D., former Chief of Surgery at a New York hospital, has joined our team.
