One of the greatest pleasures my practice gives me is that satisfaction of assisting individuals and families in finding a way out of debt, in ways that are ethical and legal. Usually, those solutions involve a bankruptcy filing.
I opened my firm in February of 2007 with a focus on representing people. I am located in my neighborhood in order to bring legal services to my community and the larger New Jersey community.
As to personal bankruptcies, I am hesitant to disclose any details that might identify the client. However, when R.H. Macy & Co., filed for bankruptcy, I represented a creditor who had not received any notice of the bankruptcy and, because of my efforts, was able to file a late claim.
The case I am proudest of is my pro bono representation of a father of a hospitalized comatose child who was charged by the hospital with criminal trespass. After a year of litigation, during which I convinced the court to remove the hospital's attorney, all charges were dismissed by the court.

My goal is competitive fees. For chapter 7 cases, my legal fee is $1,500, plus the cost of legal fees and a credit check. I handle Chapter 13 cases on an hourly basis. My initial retainer for a Chapter 13 case is $1,500, at an hourly rate of $325, with fee applications paid through the Chapter 13 plan. I went to law school with the goal of helping people and then spent 22 years making the world safe for corporations. Currently, the nation's financial crisis affects ordinary citizens disproportionately while corporations get federal bailouts. I chose bankruptcy as my primary practice to help financially-troubled persons recover their self-respect, confidence, and a good night's sleep.
I think it is admirable for clients to educate themselves on legal issues.
Of course I would review documents prepared by clients.
I prefer not to coach individuals representing themselves in bankruptcy because it is not clear to me where my legal responsibilities would start and end. Unfortunately, courts have held lawyers liable for advice given to non-clients representing themselves.
I practiced law for over 22 years in large law firms that focused on representing businesses and corporations, including a long stint at one of the world's largest law firms, Skadden Arps. I litigated cases in state and federal court, participated in sales of business, and took part in litigation in bankruptcy courts. This employment allowed me to hone my legal skills. My experience is invaluable and I am pleased to be able to bring my years of experience to the aid of persons in financial trouble.
Teaching high school mathematics made me a better lawyer because I can explain difficult concepts so that people can understand them. As a teacher, I learned patience and compassion. I learned that people just want to be heard. I am a better listener as a result.
Motherhood taught me compassion and the concept that each person is worthy of respect and love.
I don't waste time. I don't mollycoddle. I will provide compassionate legal services so that you can get on with your life. I love a good laugh.
Judges like me because I am a person of my word and look them right in the eye and present my case. I have integrity that judges can count on and I will not destroy that integrity for anyone.
I can be aggressive when it will work to your advantage and I will take a less strident stance if that will get the most favorable result for you.
I love skiing and organic gardening, but the best time is time spent with my two grandchildren, aged three and seven.
