How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I was a victim of police brutality as a teenager, and this traumatic experience was the catalyst in my long-term goal to aggressively defend the rights of others facing criminal charges.

While attending a campus block party at Ohio State University, I was hit with a tear gas canister as police officers tried to disperse a crowd of students. Police officers then hit me with flashlights, zip tied my hands and slammed my body on the ground several times.

Police further infringed upon my rights during the questioning and investigation when I was refused my right to counsel. Evidence also was tampered with, and I was charged with five false counts of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, failing to leave the scene of an emergency, rioting and disorderly conduct. I was acquitted of all charges.

This unfair and unjust situation has inspired me to defend the rights of people facing criminal charges. I witnessed how difficult it can be to have your side of a situation told, and I vowed to help people facing criminal charges have a solid opportunity to defense themselves.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Our law firm boasts a personal dedication to seeing others get the legal counsel and representation they deserve when facing criminal charges. Our attorneys understand first hand how difficult the criminal justice system can be, and they are dedicated to helping people through difficult situations.

Brian D. Joslyn

I am a criminal defense attorney dedicated to defending the rights of men, women and juveniles accused of DUI and other criminal offenses such as violent crimes, juvenile offenses, theft, probation violation, domestic violence and weapons charges among others. My firm proudly serves Columbus and the surrounding areas of Franklin County, Delaware County and Madison County.

I was born and raised in Rochester, New York, and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, during high school. After graduating high school, I attended Franklin University and graduated with three degrees in business administration, finance and marketing.

Immediately following college I moved to San Diego, California, and received a juris doctor with Cum Laude recognition from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. My decision to become a criminal defense attorney was shaped by personal hardship.

I am a member of the NORML Legal Committee, the National College for DUI Defense, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Police Accountability Project and the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
