Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

Most cases are handled by a flat fee. This limits your legal fees and avoids large monthly bills that can become too large to handle. You know exactly how much your legal fees will be. We go the extra mile to provide zealous and affordable representation.

Expungement
My belief is that once you have paid for your crime, you should pursue having your record set aside.
Not all crimes are expungeable however, we offer a free consultation to help determine whether or not your offense is expungeable. Also please recognize that arrests are also expungeable.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I have had a passion for criminal defense ever since I interned at the Metropolitan Public Defenders Office in Portland Oregon. I saw defendants were people often times in trouble out of circumstance, bad choices or actually innocent. I have zealously represented hundreds of individuals charged in State and Federal court with a tremendous amount of success. I take great pride in my trial record but especially in helping people who need it the most. To me, the rights of the accused are paramount in order to check the power of the government and its ability to charge and incarcerate people. I firmly believe that excellent representation should also be affordable. I treat my clients with respect and dignity and remain friends with a great number of my clients.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others

I was a state prosecutor for almost ten years. In that time, I developed excellent trial skills, firm knowledge of the evidence code and search and seizure issues. That experience gives me an insight into my opponent's strengths and weaknesses now that I am on the other side of the aisle.

I have tried literally hundreds of cases with great success on both sides of the aisle. I have been retained to represent people who I formerly prosecuted because they were impressed with my skills. I have successfully handled sex crimes, robberies, drug cases and homicides (including capital cases) on both sides of the aisle. This experience is invaluable in helping me evaluate, prepare and ultimately try a case.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The better a client is informed the more they can help me. One client I successfully represented on three separate attempted murder indictments became well versed in the law. He offered suggestions that I successfully adopted.

What are your firm's strengths and style?

My style is that my client is absolutely not guilty unless and until a judge or jury says so or after careful consideration a client admits guilt in court. The important part is the "unless." I always bristle at TV shows that say "all persons are innocent until proven guilty" as if it is inevitable that person is found guilty.

I graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1987. After moving to Portland in 1990 I graduated from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College in 1993.

During law school I was a certified law student at the Metropolitan Public Defenders office and gained my first courtroom experiences, including jury trials. After graduation, I opened up my practice, and through association with and referrals from other attorneys my practice began to thrive.

In December 1995 I was hired by a firm in St. Helens, Oregon representing individuals charged with crimes by the government and tried many cases. After a brief stint with a firm in Beaverton, I was hired by the Columbia County District Attorney's office in April 1997.
