Thomas DiBiase


Thomas DiBiase is a Senior Partner and the Department Head for Worker's Compensation claims at Joel H. Schwartz, P.C.. He has been with the firm for over 30 years.


Mr. DiBiase attended Providence College, then obtained a B.A. in Political Science at the University of Rhode Island, cum laude. He continued to Boston University School of Law and received his Juris Doctorate in 1973. He was admitted to both the MA State Bar and District Court of Massachusetts in 1977. His Areas of Practice include Automobile Accidents, General Liability, and Worker's Compensation litigation.


Mr. DiBiase is a member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and Massachusetts Bar Association, and has been the Chair for the statewide Commission for Rights of Auto Accident Victims. For over 30 years, Mr. DiBiase has been successfully representing victims of terrible tragedies and has been involved with some of the highest recoveries in Massachusetts. In 2012, he was named to Boston's Top Rated Lawyers List which was published in the Boston Globe and the National Law Journal. His commitment naturally flows into his community where he is involved with the National Heart Association as well as the Peter Clark Foundation. As for personal interests, Tom is an avid walker and enjoys trying to figure out the game of golf.

Steven Schwartz

Steven Schwartz is the Managing Partner of Joel H. Schwartz, P.C. and oversees its general operations. He is responsible for holding the firm to the highest standard and for maintaining its smooth and seamless performance. He ensures that every case has been properly assigned and that each and every client is cared for in the best possible manner.

Mr. Schwartz attended Harvard University in 1983 before receiving his B.A., magna cum laude, in political science and psychology from the University of Rochester in 1988. He went on to Northeastern University School of Law and received his J.D. in 1991.

He has an AVVO Rating of Superb "10" for his outstanding legal work. In addition, he has been named a Top Litigation Lawyer in Massachusetts from 2014 to the present by the American Society of Advocates. Since 2011, he is 1 of 150 attorneys selected across the country to answer legal questions on lawyers.com and is also a frequent legal contributo to LAWQA.com. He has presented as a featured speaker at numerous legal seminars including the Massachusetts Bar Association and many others. In 2014, he was asked to speak in front of a large group of upper-level management employees, lawyers, and consultants from Japan as part of Funai Soken's STUDY Tour. His 2 hour presentation detailed the inner workings of personal injury law in the United States.

John Vlassakis

John M. Vlassakis is a senior associate at Joel H. Schwartz, P.C. and is the head of its litigation department.  John's areas of expertise include automobile and trucking accidents, worker's compensation, general liability claims, and defective products.  John has been with the firm for over 23 years, and prior to joining, worked for several years in the insurance claims industry as a supervisor.  This past experience has been invaluable for negotiating personal injury cases.  Because of his background, Attorney Vlassakis knows how the insurance industry thinks, and is able to use this knowledge to his advantage.  As a result, John usually has his hand in the firm's most serious and complex cases, many resulting in six and seven figure settlements and verdicts.


 


Mr. Vlassakis attended the University of Massachusetts and received his bachelor's degree in Management and Economics.  He received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Suffolk University Law School in 1988.


 


Mr. Vlassakis is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and the American Association for Justice.  He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts.


 


A frequent lecturer for the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, Greater Boston Legal Services, and other forums, Attorney Vlassakis is concerned about educating not only attorneys, but also consumers who need the law to protect them.  Outside the office, John enjoys tennis, fitness training, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

Constance Toomey

Constance M. Toomey is a senior associate at Joel H. Schwartz P.C. and practices personal injury law, specifically in the areas of automobile accidents, general liability, worker's compensation and personal injury litigation.


Ms. Toomey attended Regis College and received a bachelor's degree in Spanish. She received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Suffolk University Law School in 1999.


Ms. Toomey is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys.

Angela Miles

Attorney Miles is a senior associate at Joel H. Schwartz, P.C. and concentrates her practice in the areas of personal injury litigation, workers compensation, disability,discrimination and sexual harassment matters. She practices throughout Massachusetts in both Superior and District Court as well as before the Department of Industrial Accidents. Attorney Miles also handles family law matters, including divorces, paternity actions, and modifications of child support and custody.

In 2015, Angela was nominated and awarded the prestigious membership to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 under 40. This organization is composed of the top trial lawyers from each state who are under 40 years of age. Membership is by invitation only.

Prior to joining the firm, Angela was an associate at a prestigious Brookline firm focusing on family law and general civil litigation matters. While in law school, she was an intern for the U.S. Attorneys Office, as well as three well-known civil litigation firms. Attorney Miles is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and Womens Bar Associations. Giving back to the community is very important to Angela: she has handled pro bono divorces on behalf of the Volunteer Lawyers Project and Womens Bar Associations.

Angela received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, and her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 2006. Attorney Miles is admitted to the Massachusetts Bar and the District of Massachusetts.

Timothy Pope

Timothy Pope is the Department Head of the firm's Social Security Disability Group. He is a senior associate at Joel H. Schwartz, P.C. and concentrates his practice in Social Security disability law only.

Prior to joining Joel H. Schwartz, P.C., Tim was an associate at a well-known Social Security disability firm in Massachusetts. In this capacity, Tim advocated successfully for disabled clients in over fifteen hundred hearings throughout New England. He is a longstanding member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives and recently was honored on the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Attorneys under 40. This prestigious membership is awarded to the top lawyers under age 40.

Tim attended the College of the Holy Cross, where he graduated cum laude, with a bachelor's degree in political science in 2004. He then went on to Suffolk University Law School where he graduated cum laude in 2007. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and in the United States District Court of Massachusetts, and can advocate at Social Security Hearings anywhere in the country.

In his spare time, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends. An avid sports fan, Tim also enjoys playing hockey and softball.

Megan Burak

Megan Burak is an associate attorney with Joel H. Schwartz, P.C. Megan primarily handles personal injury matters including but not limited to motor vehicle accidents and slip and fall incidents, as well as other claims of negligence. She has experience handling all stages of personal injury claims and various forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Prior to joining the firm, Megan was an associate attorney at a highly regarded firm in Woburn, MA, where she concentrated her practice in its personal injury department. Megan graduated cum laude from the University of Florida in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in General Education. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida in 2009. While a student at Florida Coastal School of Law, Megan received multiple Dean's Scholars distinctions and worked as a certified legal intern at the City of Jacksonville's Office of General Counsel. Megan and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2010.

Megan is an avid skier and enjoys spending time with her family and Jack Russell Terrier.

Kurt Rocha

Kurt Rocha is an associate attorney at Joel H. Schwartz, P.C., who concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury and civil litigation. He is admitted in three jurisdictions: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, as well as the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island.

Prior to joining the firm, Kurt worked at a well-known civil litigation law firm in Rhode Island where he concentrated his practice in personal injury law. While there, he successfully received awards in excess of One Million Dollars for his clients. Prior to that, Kurt was a law clerk for the Rhode Island Supreme Court Law Clerk Department where he worked on a variety of issues. One of the important assignments he worked on was assisting on the dispositive civil motion calendar in the Providence County Superior Court.

Kurt received his B.S. in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University in 2007. He also received a Master's of Science in Criminal Justice in 2011. He received his law degree from Roger Williams University, cum laude, in 2011. While in law school, Kurt competed in several trial team competitions and was a finalist in the regional American Association for Justice competition.

Kurt is an active member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, Rhode Island Bar Association, and Rhode Island Association for Justice.
