Law Office of Jason A. Volet, LLC

Firm Overview

I am certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Criminal Trial Attorney and a former Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor. I have focused my practice on defending those charged with indictable and non-indictable offenses, as well as domestic violence. I personally handle all matters related to each client's case at our firm. No aspect of your case will be handed off to a secretary, paralegal, or inexperienced associate. In addition, I will work with you directly whenever you call with questions or concerns. Every case, from the moment you walk in the door, is outcome oriented.

My firm was established in December of 2005.

Example cases

A client was convicted in municipal court of a third driving while intoxicated after a trial and sentenced to 180 days in the county jail. I was hired after the conviction to appeal the case to the Superior Court. After writing an extensive brief and having the motion heard before a Superior Court Judge, my client was found not guilty.

A client was indicted for passing bad checks. In the middle of picking a jury for trial, my client was offered Pre-Trial Intervention by the Prosecutor, which they accepted. The result being that after successfully completing the program, the charge would be dismissed.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I chose criminal law as my primary area of my practice both to protect the rights of people as well utilize my strength, trial practice. I believe that people have an absolute right to a strong and aggressive defense and the State should be held to the highest standards ensure people's rights are not violated.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

As it is very important that clients understand the charges, as well as the penalties, they are facing, I encourage my clients to educate themselves. I have found clients are much more comfortable when they have some of their own knowledge as to what is happening to them.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I would review any document prepared by my client. I would also assist them in preparing any documents needed.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Although not recommended, a person has the right to represent themself. I would be available to help them if needed.

Jason A. Volet

I began my legal career as a law clerk for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. As a law clerk, I was responsible for researching and writing motions to be heard before the Superior Court, Law Division, as well as answering appeals to be heard before the Appellate Division.

After my clerkship was completed, I was promoted to Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor in the Family Division prosecuting juvenile offenders. As an Assistant Prosecutor in the Family Division, I handled all types of cases from charging through trial. These cases included, but were not limited to: drug offenses, weapons offenses, theft related offenses, assault related offenses, and armed robbery.

I was then promoted to a trial team where I prosecuted adult offenders, handling cases from plea through trial before a jury. These cases included, but were not limited to: drug offenses, theft related offenses, eluding, assault related offenses, and armed robbery.

I left the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office in 2005 and started the Law Office of Jason A. Volet, LLC, where I now engage solely in the practice of Criminal and Municipal Court Defense, utilizing the skills I learned in the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office to vigorously defend my clients.

Being a former Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor has been invaluable in making me a better defense attorney. I have had the benefit, as an assistant prosecutor, not only trying and negotiating cases, but of also being involved in investigations of offenses. I am intimately familiar with the workings of the prosecutor's office, and what an assistant prosecutor is looking for when negotiating or evaluating cases.

Since the moment I began my career as an attorney, everything I have done has been geared to make me a trial attorney. My prior experience as an Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor has given me the ability to evaluate a case from both sides. This allows for my clients to be confident in whatever I recommend, whether it is a plea or trial.
