James L. Evertts, Attorney at Law

Firm Overview

My law practice is client service oriented. I believe that in the area of estate planning "one size does not fit all." We strive to nurture a collaborative environment with our clients. This allows me to go beyond just the preparation of estate planning documents and incorporate individual values and family dynamics in the development of an estate plan. This approach frequently leads to long-term relationships with my clients.

The Law Office of James L Evertts moved to Campbell, California, in 2010, after having been located in San Jose, California, for approximately 19 years. Prior to moving to California in 1990, I practiced law in the Chicago area for approximately 11 years.

Example cases

I have worked with clients to develop estate plans when their assets were less than hundred thousand dollars or where their assets were over several million dollars.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I personally witnessed how estate planning enabled a member of my family, who had only a fifth grade education, live a fulfilling and prosperous life.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The knowledge and information a client obtains regarding the legal issues involved in his or her matter is of great assistance in being able to develop an effective solution for the client.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Generally, I have found the review of documents prepared by client to be much more expensive then the client anticipates and often necessitates the preparation of new documents.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Generally, I do not recommend that somebody represent themselves. There are just too many unexpected legal issues and procedures that can arise in a case.
