Medical Malpractice
Our experienced medical malpractice attorneys help you resolve your claim with compassion.
As lawyers helping victims of medical neglect and malpractice, we guide our clients through every step of a lawsuit against hospitals, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers. Common claims of medical malpractice include hospital negligence, birth injurieslike cerebral palsy,Erb'spalsy, brachial plexus injury, brain damage or even death, brain injury, spinal injury, surgical negligence, obstetrical malpractice, gynecological negligence, and nursing negligence.

Initiating a medical malpractice claim against a hospital or provider can be a long and difficult journey.A medical malpracticeclaim is very different than auto negligence or other personal injury claims. It requires a notice period before suit can be filed andexpert witness support. How and when a suit can be filed is dependent on whether the patient was a minor at the time of the injury, whether the patient died as a result, when the injury occurred, orsometimes, when the negligence was discovered. There are also very specific rules thatgovern what damages you may be entitled to. We are experienced medical malpractice attorneys in Grand Rapids and serve all of Michigan. Hoffer & Sheremet will be with you every step of the way.

From our initial meeting until resolution of your claim, we will explainevery step of this complicated process. We will also havea medical professional review your case at the outset, so you are fully informed of the strengths and potential weaknesses of your case, and can make an informed decision, before suit is filed.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Stephanie Hoffer and Aubri Sheremet met while they were litigation defense attorneys at a large firm in Grand Rapids, MI. After spending years working together representing doctors, hospitals, nurses, lawyers, and other professionals, making laws that helped insurance companies, and doing whatever they could to prevent injury victims from receiving full compensation, they received a phone call from another attorney that changed their perspective.

That attorney asked them to represent a young woman who was raped by college athletes. The college had looked the other way. Aubri and Stephanie came in to help the victim. Out of that representation, came the vision for Hoffer & Sheremet - a law firm that provides top quality legal representation to individuals that have been harmed, practicing with the utmost integrity and maintaining the dignity of the profession; a law firm comprised of compassionate attorneys who see their clients as human beings.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

1. We are innovative attorneys that challenge the status quo. Our unique mix of trial court litigation and appellate court litigation sets us apart from other plaintiff's personal injury law firms. Appellate litigation focuses on the interpretation, application, and development of the law. Trial court litigation focuses on development of the facts. Development of the facts is essential for a strong appeal. And applying appellate principles and experience at the trial court level allows our clients to be placed in the best legal position possible.

2. We provide continual and accurate case assessments. We believe that an attorney's role is to advise her client of the costs, risks and benefits of various actions. Our clients are fully informed and advised throughout the litigation and appellate process, allowing them to decide the direction they want their case to take. We tell it like it is. But we also know that litigation can be life altering and all-consuming. We will be there to hold your hand when you are facing the physician that committed medical malpractice during child birth that resulted in cerebral palsy, a brachial plexus injury, or other birth trauma injury to your baby.

3. All of our clients are important to us. Whether the case value is $100,000 or $1,000,000, we give as much time and attention to each individual case as that case needs. We do not cut corners. Our clients have direct access to their attorneys, and our attorneys are responsive.

4. We take a team approach to every case. Two attorneys will be fully knowledgeable about every case. Our clients get the full benefit of two attorneys with strong overall skill sets that approach issues from different angles. Two heads are better than one.
