In 1999, he joined the Federal Public Defender in the Southern District of Florida as an Assistant Federal Public Defender, representing individual defendants accused of committing federal offenses, including drug trafficking, alien smuggling, bank robbery, bank fraud, securities fraud, wire and mail fraud and healthcare fraud. As an Assistant Federal Public Defender, Mr. Bell cut his teeth representing his clients accused of committing crimes by the United States government in all phases of their legal proceedings.

A native of South Florida, Mr. Bell maintains strong ties to the local community and is active in the legal community, currently serving on the Criminal Justice Act Panel Committee for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
