Jack Helgesen has had an extraordinary legal career.
He graduated cum laude with a degree in finance from WSU, and received a Juris Doctor law degree from BYU Law School where he was an Editor of the Utah Journal of Family Law. He started his career in 1980 creating trusts and estate plans for wealthy retirees in Phoenix. He later moved home to Ogden and became a trial lawyer in hundreds of civil and criminal trials.
As a criminal defense lawyer, Mr. Helgesen became one of only a handful of Utah lawyers to win acquittals from juries in murder, rape and kidnaping trials.
As a juvenile court lawyer, Mr. Helgesen represented young Utahns in hundreds of trials and hearings. His firm has continued this tradition for more than twenty-five years.
As a medical malpractice lawyer, Mr. Helgesen won one of the first million dollar awards in a Utah medical trial. He and his partners have won settlements and awards in hundreds of medical malpractice cases since 1982.
As an injury trial lawyer for severely injured Utahns, Mr. Helgesen has won some of the largest settlements in Utah. He and his partners have successfully resolved hundreds of injury cases in the last twenty-five years.
As a consumer trial lawyer, Mr. Helgesen filed and won (at trial and through multiple appeals) one of the largest class action judgments in the history of Utah more than $70 million for more than 21,000 Utah tax payers in Brumley v. Tax Commission, 868 P.2d 796 (Utah 1993). He and his partners have been winning consumer cases for more than twenty-five years.
Mr. Helgesen has been a leader among American lawyers. He is a former President of the Utah Trial Lawyers Association, and was a Governor (for more than ten years) of the Association of American Trial Lawyers in Washington, D.C., the nations largest trial lawyer organization. He is currently a Governor of the American Association of Justice (Washington, D.C.), a Master with the American Inns of Court, and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

Rich Jones received both his B.A. Degree in Economics and J.D. Law degree from Brigham Young University. After graduating the J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1982, Richard W. Jones began working as an attorney in Ogden for Helgesen, Houtz & Jones law firm, formerly known as Helgesen, Waterfall & Jones. He continues to work for this same firm today.
He focuses his practice on Real Estate Law, Homeowner Associations and Condominium Associations. He enjoys this type of work and tries to settle disputes outside the courtroom whenever possible.
Richard Jones resides in Davis County with his wife and family. They are the parents of 5 children. His oldest son is following in his footsteps and is graduating from Law School at BYU in 2013. After his graduation, he will be joining Helgesen, Houtz & Jones as an attorney. He and his wife have participated in many different humanitarian projects, many of which have been in different countries all across the world.
J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU
Michael Houtz earned a Masters Degree in French Studies from New York University in 1984, and returned to Utah to attend Law School at BYU. In 1989 he graduated with his J.D. Law Degree from J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU. He began working as an attorney in 1991 for the law firm Helgesen, Houtz & Jones after serving as clerk for the Arizona Court of Appeals. He became a partner in the law firm in 1996.
He has earned a reputation for being one of the best Social Security Disability Attorneys in the State of Utah. He wins almost all of his cases. He also specializes as a Personal Injury Attorney, Medical Malpractice Attorney, Trust Attorney and Contracts Attorney. He has worked with many different criminal cases over his career as both an Attorney and a prosecutor.
When Michael isn't working, he is usually spending time with his wife and their five children. Their favorite thing to do is travel the country together. They are avid New York Yankee fans and have traveled to the Yankees Stadium many times to see their games.

Keith Backman graduated with a J.D. Law Degree from J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1993. He started his career working as an attorney with Helgesen, Houtz & Jones law firm in Ogden. He is now a parter of the law firm.
He focuses his practice on Business Law, Real Estate Law, Family Law, General Counsel Servcies and Estate Planning. He has appeared on behalf of his clients in almost every court along the Wasatch Front, including the Utah Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.
His practice is focused on Business Law, Contracts, Family Law, Real Estate Law, Estate Planning and General Counsel Services. He has represented clients in almost every court along the Wasatch Front and has appeared in the Utah Court of Appeals and the Utah Supreme Court.
He recently appeared in the Utah Supreme Court for the case Investment V. Comcast of Utah II, INC. Based on his case, the Supreme Court went a new direction with their ruling on liquidated damages.
He met his wife as an undergraduate student at BYU, and they have been married ever since. They now have four children. His oldest daughter decided to follow in her parents footsteps by attending BYU.
Keith Backman loves to stay busy. When he isn't working, he's coming up with a project to keep him busy. He loves to read, ride his motorcycle around the city and hike with his family. He has always wanted to create a computer out of scratch and organize his book collection into a catalog for his children to use.

After teaching English at Weber State University for four years, Scott Nickle decided he wanted to attend law school and become an attorney. He graduated from the Gonzaga School of Law in 2006. He began interning for Helgesen, Houtz & Jones in 2005 and returned as an attorney after received his J.D. Law Degree.
He focuses his law practice on Family Law and Estate Planning. He is one of the only Family Law Attorneys to deal with Surrogacy. He has experiences in all types of family law, which helps him to provide his clients with the professional help they are looking for in an attorney. He has represented clients in the Adult and Juvenile Court that are faced with criminal charges.
Scott lives in Kaysville together with his wife and their four children. Unless it's time for his children to do their homework, Scott loves being at home. He loves to spend time with his family and are always finding fun things to keep them busy.
