What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Education is a good thing, but the law is complicated with many exceptions and qualifications. Clients should always speak with an attorney in order to understand and appreciate all of the issues that are material to their case. Aside from factual issues, there are defenses which are sometimes raised by defendants that may have an impact on a potential claim.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Our attorneys review everything that is material to a client’s case. Certainly before a client executes any document, it would be reviewed by one the attorneys in the firm.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We do not assist client with their own representation.

Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Typically, the firm handles all aspects of a personal injury claim, including medical malpractice and car accidents. There may be certain circumstances in which a unique area of law may either require co-counsel or separate counsel. In the event that separate counsel is required, the law firm will typically assist the client with finding counsel for whatever part of the claim the firm is not handling. Such cases are rare, and the exception rather that the rule.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

The law firm operates as one legal team to achieve the best results for the client in the most cost effective manner. Attorneys oversee each case, but paralegals are used to perform various functions during the pendency of the case.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Mediation and arbitrations, sometimes referred to as alternate dispute resolution mechanisms, are employed in those cases where they will likely provide some benefit and where they will not unduly delay the prosecution of the case.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

The law firm participates in a number of community functions, and each year conducts a fundraiser to benefit a charity (or in some cases a needy family) in the City of Cleveland.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Friedman, Domiano & Smith is committed to the pursuit of its clients’ interests and is backed by decades of legal experience. The firm realizes that for many, this may be their first contact with the legal system, and thus, the attorneys take the time necessary to walk each client through the legal process. The law firm is dedicating to challenging the law, where appropriate, to preserve the rights of injury victims and does not shy away from cases there is a reasonable chance of breaking new legal ground.
