Fred E. Walker, P.C.

Firm Overview

Fred E. Walker, P. C. was established in 1985 and represents debtors in bankruptcy proceedings and taxpayers with IRS problems.

Example cases

One memorable case comes to mind. A couple came to me with a number of year's worth of unfiled tax returns. They owed the IRS over a million dollars, there was a lien on their home and business. We filed a chapter 7 and were able to redeem their house from the lien, save their business and resolve their IRS problem.

I had an elderly client who had a predatory lending situation, where they sold her a home equity loan at a very high rate of interest. We ended up filing suit against the lender and got her a settlement.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I believe most of our laws are written to protect the creditors and that predatory lending runs rampant in our society. I have always enjoyed helping people, and practicing law focusing on consumer issues is a natural fit for me. My practice is almost entirely focused around helping individual clients with real life problems.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe clients should always make an attempt to educate themselves on legal issues. The most cost effective way for clients to achieve a good result is to take ownership of their case and allow the attorney to be their advocate and coach.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I offer clients a free 30-minute consultation to discuss their legal issue in full. Often, this encompasses reviewing documents presented by clients. I am more than glad to do it as long as it pertains to the case.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I am happy to assist clients who want to represent themselves in routine matters.

Fred Walker

I did a stint early on with the Texas Board of Insurance. Other than that, I have been a solo practitioner doing nothing but bankruptcy and related issues.

I have been helping real people suffering through the consequences of too much debt for the past 25 years. I have seen the emotional problems and the destruction of families caused by easy credit and predatory lending. My profession requires me to be part counselor and part attorney. I have represented over 15,000 people in bankruptcy proceedings during my career.

My entire staff and I believe the client comes first. We respond to calls within 24 hours, and we pride ourselves on being professional and responsive to our clients needs. We are knowledgeable, thorough, and we give our clients all of their options so they can make better decisions. We care about the outcome, and our clients appreciate the time we take with them.

Personal interests:

I am devoted to building a better educational system for our children. I was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Lake Travis Independent School District from 1993 - 1995.
