Law Office of Fred H. Welch, P.L.L.C.

Firm Overview

I opened my own office in 2002. My office focuses on Bankruptcy, Domestic Relation and Criminal Law.

Example cases

In Bankruptcy the majority of my cases are handled without adversarial proceedings. I have saved people from being evicted from their home, having their wages garnished, and being harassed by collection agencies.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I chose to work in consumer bankruptcy to help people recover from financial loss.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Bankruptcy has an impact on an individual for years. Clients should educate themselves about the basics of Bankruptcy. While all attorney's go over the general concepts of Bankruptcy, it is important for people to have a general idea about the law and their own problem.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I feel comfortable in assisting in preparing documents for people filing a chapter 7 bankruptcy. However, I would not review documents prepared for a chapter 13 bankruptcy.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I would coach, on an hourly basis, individuals who are representing themselves in a chapter 7 bankruptcy. However, I feel that a chapter 13 is too complicated for an individual to undertake by themselves.

Fred H. Welch

Prior to opening my own office I worked in the La Paz County Public Defender's Office and another attorney office.

As an attorney I have learned that people come to an attorney because they have a problem. They need someone to listen to their problem and help them solve it. I have worked one on one with people having all types of legal problems. I treat each of my clients as a person not as a case.

I try to build a relationship with my client, and I try to understand their problems and the stress they are under. I believe that there must be mutual trust between me and my client. Most people want to pay their debts, but because of the economy and the banks greed, they need a fresh start.

Personal interests:

I spend a lot of time with my extended family. I like to travel, both in the United States and internationally. I usually go snow skiing once a year.
