Firm Overview

A founding partner of Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff, LLP, Sacramento personal injury lawyer Eric Ratinoff has been advocating for the injured for over twenty years. A plaintiff's trial lawyer at heart, he has successfully tried and settled numerous lawsuits on behalf of our clients for a wide scope of personal injuries involving traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, motorcycle accidents, trucking and car accidents, medical malpractice cases, and product liability lawsuits.

One of his recent lawsuit victories involves what is believed to be one of the largest medical malpractice jury verdicts in Sacramento County. With law partner Brooks Cutter, they recovered $7.6 million on behalf of a young woman rendered T4 paraplegic due to U.C. Davis Medical Center's failure to diagnose a mass on her thoracic spine.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I chose to represent plaintiffs because I want to help people. My father had a small neurology practice, so I grew up in an environment where I personally saw the effects of brain injury. It was always reinforced in my family that we are here to serve others, especially the injured. Being a lawyer is both extremely rewarding and challenging, but I love the challenge, and I love knowing that we are fighting for something bigger than ourselves. I love the breath of relief and tears of joy in my clients when we make a recovery on their behalf.

It is always our goal to go above and beyond what a client hopes to achieve, and although no sum of money can ever replace the pain they've experienced, it is gratifying to know that we can take part in helping improve his or her situation.

In short, I'm passionate about what we do, and I never considered any other area of practice.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I love it when my client's educate themselves on legal issues. I try to help educate them, as well. Representing a person is a collaborative process, and that collaboration benefits (and the case benefits) when I have a well informed client.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I always read every document that my clients prepare for me, and whenever necessary I discuss the documents with them to make sure I understand what they want me to know.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I do not coach clients who wish to represent themselves. I am, of course, willing to speak with anyone who contacts me about their potential case, but I do not provide "coaching."

Eric Ratinoff

Before starting Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff, I was a partner with the firm of Friedman, Collard, Cutter & Panneton. I started with the firm ten years earlier, and left to start Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff.

I am the son of immigrant parents who taught me the value of appreciating hard work, ethics, integrity, humility, and love. I try to instill those same values in my own children. I bring those values with me into my office, the courtroom, and the lives of the people with whom I interact each day.

My greatest strengths as a lawyer are that I work harder than most, I have tremendous integrity, and I have tremendous empathy. I view arrogance as a weakness, and true understanding of people as a great strength.

Personal interests:

My personal interests are everything and anything having to do with my two kids and my wife. Besides that, I love to run, cycle, and ski.
