Workers Compensation

DuRard, McKenna & Borg is a venerable Bay Area Workers Compensation Firm with a 60 year history of representing working men and women in workers compensation matters.

At DuRard, McKenna & Borg, our attorneys have a long history of fighting for the rights of working men and women throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Each legal professional at DuRard, McKenna & Borg has his or her own unique set of strengths that we maximize through a collaborative approach to client representation in workers compensation matters.

We appreciate the difficult situations our clients face and our experienced team of highly qualified San Francisco workers' compensation lawyers works hard to fight for the justice you deserve.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

DuRard, McKenna & Borg traces its roots back more than 50 years when our founder, Ernie Norback, began representing working men and women in San Francisco.

In the mid-'60s Robert DuRard joined the firm and came to personify the unofficial motto: "No cause too hopeless, no case too small." Well known in local labor circles as well as local courts, Bob served as an Officer of the San Mateo County Bar Association and the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers' Associates and was a familiar face at many local charity organizations. Bob retired from active practice in November 1996 and died in 1999 but the spirit of his work remains very much with us today.

Michael G. McKenna joined the firm in 1983, and focused his practice in the areas of workers' compensation and personal injury law, with a special emphasis on third party cases. He was an active member of the California Applicants' Attorneys Association and was a long-time co-chair of that organization's Labor Committee. Michael always felt he owed a debt of gratitude to organized labor as his membership in the Marine Cooks and Stewards' Union allowed him to ship out in 1969 and travel to Asia with the Merchant Marines. He also worked as a member of Hod Carriers Local 36 during law school. A San Mateo native, Michael's presence at the firm deepened the roots of our practice in the local community. Michael retired in September 2016 but his spirit, dedication and work ethic remain as our standard.

Sue Borg joined the firm in 1990 and continues the long legacy of service to the working men and women of the San Francisco Bay Area. She is a Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation Law, and has lectured widely on the subject.

Sue is an active member of the California Applicant Attorneys' Association (CAAA), a statewide association of attorneys representing injured workers. She has served as a past president of CAAA and is the founder of the San Francisco chapter. She is a current member of the Board of Governors and the current Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee.

Sue has received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the national directory of lawyers. This is the highest possible rating an attorney can receive, indicating that her peers rank her at the highest levels of professionalism and ethical standards. She is the 2005 recipient of the San Francisco chapter's Applicant Attorney of the Year award, the 2013 recipient of the Applicant Attorney of the Year award from the State Bar of California Workers Compensation section and she received the Eugene Marias Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Applicants' Attorneys Association in July 2016.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others?

Our firm is distinguished by the AV Preeminant rating from Martindale-Hubbell as well as the many awards and honors received over the years . We have invested and continue to invest substantial time and resources in continuing education for our lawyers and staff. We have been in the trenches at the Workers Compensation Appeals Board and on the ground in Sacramento fighting to shape pending legislation into a better system for working men and women in California. Our education and experience place us at the cutting edge of workers compensation law and practice which puts us at the forefront of firms representing the rights of people who are injured or become ill on the job.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Our experience, education and collaborative approach distinguishes our firm from all the rest.
