How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I came into private practice with 22 years of experience as a government lawyer in the field of Criminal Law. It is only natural..

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The more the client knows about his predicament and the law, the better.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Certainly; even better are letters prepared by victims and witnesses, as long as they can be acquired without violating any No Contact Orders.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

No, I do not advise self-representation.

2009 to Present - Douglas L. Gardner, Attorney at Law
1989 to 2009 - Senior Deputy District Attorney, Shasta County
1987 to 1989 - Deputy Public Defender, Shasta CountyI
I have spent almost 30 years practicing criminal law in the North State, including 20 years working my way up through the ranks at the Shasta County District Attorney's office where over that time I have handled just about every type of criminal case. I also served several years as a supervisor of the Misdemeanor/Juvenile prosecution team with a staff of 3-5 young staff/attorneys. In that position I literally participated in the handling of thousands of DUI's, from issuing the complaints, to deciding which cases were tried and which were settled out. I also was the county's first MNVP attorney. That's a grant funded "Major Narcotics Violators Prosecutor, responsible for handling the biggest narcotics cases from investigation assistance to trial. That is all experience that now serves the advantage of my private defense clients.
