Firm Overview

With a background expanding the breadth of working for the federal courts, to acting as in-house counsel for a national company, to assisting performing arts non-profits, my practice focuses on the legal needs of entrepreneurs and the arts community. I provide personalized service to individuals, start-ups, small to medium sized businesses, entrepreneurs, artists, and arts-related non-profit organizations. I focus my law practice on the interplay of business, law, and the arts.Example casesBusiness Law

Working with The Leonard Legal Group, I assisted a privately-held technology development company with a ten million dollar investment from Dresser-Rand Company. The investment granted Dresser-Rand certain licensing and exclusive marketing rights to the company's technologies and intellectual property, which will be used to advance the company's technology development.

Intellectual Property

I counseled a locally-based, nationally touring rock band on securing a copyright license in order to perform a live version of a musical film cult hit. The band not only wanted a license to perform the music live, but also to sell recordings of their version of the music. The band properly secured the rights to the music and their cover of this musical film continues to be a top seller for both live performances and sound recordings.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I highly support and encourage clients to educate themselves on legal issues pertaining to their situation. I am always happy to assist in such education and to answer and explain any questions a client may have.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I will review a document prepared by a client at my hourly rate. I do caution that in most cases, it saves the client time and money to allow me to prepare the document initially.

Denise Glinatsis Bayer

Following graduation from law school, I earned the honor of serving as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Peter C. Economus of the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio. During my time with the court, I analyzed federal civil matters and assisted the judge in drafting memoranda of law, court opinions, and court orders. In 2008, I joined a national shopping center development and management company as in-house counsel. While there, I researched and explained changes in current laws and regulations to department heads and other corporate counsel; as well as advised corporate heads on legal compliance requirements.

One of the greatest honors a law graduate can earn is to serve as a judicial law clerk to a federal judge. I was fortunate enough to be granted this experience before embarking on my legal career. As a judicial clerk, I saw first-hand the inner workings of the court--particularly, what factors the judge takes into account in coming to a decision and what drafting and writing techniques are most effective. This knowledge, experienced by a small percentage of attorneys, greatly enriches my advocacy for my clients.

I possess real world experience representing, dealing with, and negotiating with major businesses, so I know how to advise the start-up with an eye on the big picture. Once clients meet me, they realize that I am not your typical attorney--I am very down to earth and like to use as little "legalese" as possible. I am also quite attuned to current events in the legal community and strive to keep up to date on recent court opinions and legal trends.

Personal interests:

Theater, live music, singing, art shows, spending time outdoors (especially in the gorgeous Mill Creek Metroparks), domestic and international travel.
