How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

To level the playing field for the powerless.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The more the better. That's why I wrote the book.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Not Applicable.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Not Applicable.

What are your firm's strengths and style?

There are many lawyers to choose from for your Austin divorce or accident case. However, all Texas family law and personal injury lawyers are not the same. Many never take cases to trial and therefore lack the skill and confidence to go to court and win. Ironically, using this type of attorney can make it less likely that your case will settle, or at least settle for something that makes you happy.

Hiring a "settle at all costs" lawyer means your case may take longer, cost more and yield a worse result than if you hired a trial lawyer to prepare your case for court from day one. On the other hand, hiring a trial lawyer allows you to bargain from a position of strength instead of fear. Being ready for trial usually leads to faster and more favorable settlements. And, if you have to try the case, you have the confidence that comes from being prepared.

"Why should I consider hiring you?"

I began my legal career trying, and winning, many criminal jury trials. This experience taught me how to present a compelling case a judge and jury under the difficult circumstance of defending someone accused of a crime. Since changing my practice to representing Texans in divorce and personal injury cases, my trial experience and willingness to take cases to court have been key to obtaining excellent results for clients. Review this website (especially our client testimonials) and download my free legal guides to learn how I can help you win the result you want and deserve.

We don't accept every case that comes in the door. We focus individual attention on those cases where we believe we can help get the best possible result for our client.

The Todd Law Firm:
Making a Difference. One Family at a Time.

David Todd

My name is David Todd and I've been representing Texans in personal injury law matters since 1989. I was born in Dallas, where I was active in the Boy Scouts of America, earning my Eagle Scout rank. I graduated from St. Mark's school of Texas in 1982. I attended the University of Texas at Austin for my undergraduate studies, and I earned a BA degree in Honors Liberal Arts (the "Plan II" program) with highest honors, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1986. I received my JD from the University of Texas School of Law in 1989, where I served on The Review of Litigation. I founded my law firm in 1989 and I have practiced law in Austin, Texas ever since.

I have been inducted into the Multimillion Dollar Advocates Forum and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum for outstanding case results. I am a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, and I am a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association, as well as the Family Law Section of the Austin Bar Association. I am board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

My focus is representing individuals injured by the negligence of others. Each case receives personal, attorney attention (not just paralegal work) and we take pride in making sure the client stays informed about and involved with their case every step of the way. By focusing on the few cases that meet our standards for acceptance, we are able to devote the time and effort needed to obtain the best possible results.

After years of litigating injury cases, I wrote a number of legal guides (available for free download on our website to help Texans learn how to avoid common mistakes and protect their rights so they can resolve their case and get on with their lives.

As part of our commitment to helping injured children, we donate a portion of our fee from each child injury case to the Dell Children's Medical Center. We are also a proud supporter of the Austin Center for Child Protection.
