Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?
Yes.
What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?
I am a solo practitioner, so I do all the work from answering telephones and writing motions to making court appearances.
How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?
ADR is not typically available in criminal cases.
Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?
Yes.
What distinguishes your law firm from others?
The judges in the courts I appear in know that I am courteous and will not misrepresent the facts of any case. The District Attorney know I will take a case to trial if necessary, and I have obtained many dismissals and reductions as a result.
What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
The client who has no desire to understand the legal process is very likely going to face the same problem in the future. I prefer a client that will research their options on their own and then bring their questions to me. Also, a client needs to understand that not everything they hear will be accurate information. Just because there is information available on the internet, or because their relative is a prosecutor in San Francisco, does not mean the information they receive is correct and will be useful in their own case.
Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?
Yes. This occurs more in civil cases, but I am willing to review a petition for someone who wants to represent them self in court.
Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
Yes. This might occur for a defendant who has a DUI and wants to understand their options, but is not able to pay for full representation.
