Firm Overview

When people think of Estate Planning, their main concern is "what happens to my stuff when I die." But they should also be concerned with "what happens to my stuff when I am not able to manage it." Planning for incapacity, memory loss, and old age is a very important, and often over-looked, part of Estate Planning. CHERNE LAW helps you plan for your care while you are alive and helps you plan your legacy with everything that remains.

ADVANCED HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVES
To most people, health care decisions are very important and personal. Instead of allowing a court to choose, take time to name someone you love and trust to make your health care decisions if you are not able to. This gives that person the authority to make important decisions regarding life support, organ donation, and whether to be cared for in your home or at a facility. This power can also be limited. For example: if you do not want to be an organ donor, you can say that your agent does not have the power to donate your organs.

LONG TERM CARE/MEDI-CAL PLANNING
For most people, retirements biggest expense ends up being Long Term Care. At CHERNE LAW we can help you plan for long term care and protect your assets so that you don't leave your loved ones destitute.

WILLS/TRUSTS/POWER OF ATTORNEY
Whether it's a Will, Trust, or Power of Attorney, creating an estate plan will give you peace of mind that your loved ones are taken care of and your wishes will be carried out. To most clients, giving assets to loved ones means much more than passing the property from one hand to another. It means passing on family heirlooms, generations of memories, and one's legacy. CHERNE LAW helps clients draft a plan that is customized to meet these needs.

GUARDIANSHIP PLANNING
A big mistake most people make is waiting to plan their estate until they are old. However, estate planning is most important for families with minor children. What happens to your children if you pass away? Who cares for them? Where should they live? What school should they go to? Responsible parents should plan for their children, in the unfortunate event that they pass away. At CHERNE LAW, we can help you plan your guardianship and leave a set of instructions for how your guardian should care for your children.

PROBATE
When someone dies, the family always fears the dreaded "probate". And rightly so, since it is a long, expensive and complicated process. CHERNE LAW understands these concerns and can handle the probate process for you, so that you do not have to stress while grieving the loss of a loved one.
