For someone who has never been seriously injured in an auto accident, it can be hard to comprehend the lasting effects those injuries can have on a victim's life.
For one of our clients, Sue Wittman, life was turned upside down after she was seriously injured in a rollover accident. After the accident, she was forced to spend over a year in a nursing home recovering from the injuries she sustained.
Sue was injured when the van she was riding in was struck on the side, forcing the vehicle into a ditch. Her sister and brother-in-law were also injured in the car accident, which took place in December 2007.
Multiple surgeries were necessary to repair the damage to Sue's body, and she almost lost her leg to infections and complications resulting from those procedures. To this day, she can only walk approximately 75 feet at a time before she has to stop.
However, she credits the orthopedic surgeon our office referred her to for saving her leg:
"I would never have walked again if it hadn't been for him," she said. "He gave me back the use of my leg. He was extremely kind, and he paid attention to all the small details of my injury."
Despite all of her setbacks, Sue has managed to stay nothing but positive and optimistic. Even when confined to a nursing home bed, she would talk about her friends at the Genoa Retirement Village, the ladies from church, and the unending support of her sister, Carol, and brother-in-law, Russell:
"Sue is always thinking of other people, even when she should be thinking of herself," Leslie Rombkowski, our office manager, said. "Anyone would be lucky to have Sue in their life."
Our office helped Sue get the proper compensation to cover the more than $500,000 in medical bills the accident caused her to incur, and to get back on her feet. The settlement allowed her to get the proper treatment she needed, and let her come home to a house that is completely handicap-accessible.
The settlement of this case has given Sue financial security for the rest of her life:
"I am so thankful for all of the hard work [the attorneys and staff did] handling my auto accident case," Sue said. "I am extremely satisfied with my settlement. I am so appreciative that Chuck continued to be my attorney and took care of my home dilemmas and setting up the trust."

I wanted to assist individuals and maximize their recovery when they most need help.
We wrote eight books to help clients educate themselves.
I regularly review and edit documents prepared by my clients.
The cases I accept always require attorney representation. If I feel that a case is either too small to warrant hiring an attorney, or if a client would just like some advice, I am more than willing to sit down with the client and offer an opinion in response to their questions.
I opened my own firm, Charles E. Boyk Law Offices, immediately after law school. I have been at the firm my entire career.
College and high school debate and law school Moot Court have helped me. I grew up in a blue collar household. My youngest son (age eight) suffered a brain injury as a result of a personal injury negligence situation. This further strengthened my understanding of my clients' situations.
