Potter Law Offices

Firm Overview

The Potter Law Office represents people who have been injured or accused of crimes. For over 30 years I have represented injured tourists and Nevada residents.

The Potter Law Offices was established in 1978 and has represented injured tourists and workers with famed attorney, F.Lee Bailey in the MGM Grand Fire Litigation and in the Tailhook Litigation at the Hilton Hotel with the King of Torts, Melvin Belli. I have also served as lead counsel in several class actions cases in the state of Nevada representing thousands of injured inmates and pretrial detainees in the prisons of Nevada and the jails of Clark County.

My firm has also been actively involved as an AFL-CIO cooperating firm representing injured workers in product liability actions for defective tools, scaffolding and concrete pumps. On a daily basis we represent people who have been injured in car, truck and motorcycle accidents. I served 15 years on the State of Nevada, Medical-Dental Screening Panel reviewing medical and dental malpractice actions and we currently represent people who are the victims of medical and dental malpractice.

Example cases

• Traumatic Brain Injury- Multimillion Dollar award in a premises liability matter where the client catapulted into a slot machine when his slot chair leg punctured the carpeting in the casino where the casino had failed to plate an electric outlet box to prevent their patrons from falling through the hole in the floor.

• Car-Truck Accident-Spinal Injury - Multimillion Dollar Award- Where a construction company truck pulled in front of a family of five headed to the Las Vegas Airport to enjoy their summer vacation at Disneyland. Instead their lives were shattered when they were all injured and the Father sustained a severe orthopedic injury requiring multiple back surgeries.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I became a trial lawyer to seek social justice for all people. Tourists and residents alike are entitled to fair and honest representation and medical treatment.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I have taught adult education classes at UNLV helping people represent themselves in the collection and eviction processes. I have also taught with the Nevada Trial Lawyer's, People's Law School, so that people understand the legal process, the court system and representing themselves or assisting their friends and families in the criminal justice system.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

For over 30 years I have assisted clients who have injured or accused of infractions in prison and jail matters. I have reviewed their pleadings, grievances and complaints and have also assisted them, both directly and indirectly in settlement conferences, administrative hearings and court proceedings where they are representing themselves as pro se litigants or what is also known as being in pro per.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I argued the case of Godinez v. Moran before the United States Supreme Court on the mental competency standard for a client to waive counsel and represent himself.
