Firm Overview

I consider the Bronsther Law Firm, PC to be a boutique law firm handling matters in a few select areas of the law, with a specific concentration in Bankruptcy Law. In addition to Bankruptcy Law, the firm represents clients who require assistance in the following areas of the law: Estate Planning and Administration Law, Elder Law and Real Estate.

The Law offices of Brian H. Bronsther were established in 1991, when I moved from Western Massachusetts to the Capital District area. I first opened my office in Amsterdam, New York, where I quickly developed one of the leading bankruptcy practices in the city. Shortly thereafter, I opened a satellite office in Clifton Park, NY, where I practiced the four areas of law referred to above. Over time, I transitioned my practice to the Capital District area, handling matters from Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and Saratoga Counties, as well as Washington and Warren Counties, all while focusing primarily on bankruptcy law and debt related matters.

Example cases

We recently had a case where we were able to reduce the mortgage payments being made by the debtor by "stripping" the second mortgage from the property, thereby leaving the second mortgage as wholly unsecured. This allowed the debtor a more affordable mortgage payment.

We also recently had a case where we were able to reduce the automobile payments being made by the debtor by "stripping" a cross collateralized third loan from the car, as well as reducing the interest rate to be paid during the life of the loan. This allowed the debtor a more affordable car payment.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Financial troubles can be deeply disturbing and extremely stressful. Being able to help people get through these troubling times, get their life back on track and get a fresh start is extremely satisfying.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

It can be quite helpful. If a client has taken the time to educate themselves on the issues at hand, they are often more likely to understand the outstanding issues and proposed solutions. Furthermore, the more informed a client is, the more likely it is that the individual will provide the attorney with the relevant and necessary information so that an informed decision can be made.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

We frequently review documents as part of the initial consultation, thereby giving us better insight into what we can expect when we undertake a case.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

There are times when the legal fees charged to represent an individual do not warrant the issue at hand. It is at these times when we will assist individuals to represent themselves for a more modest fee.

Brian H. Bronsther

I have served as a litigation associate to Bernstein & Berk, PA of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, as a senior real estate associate to Fried, Spector, Scher and Feldman of New York, NY, and as general counsel to Income Property Associates, Inc., of Lenox, MA, a real estate investment company.

My diverse background, serving as a litigation associate, senior real estate associate, and as general counsel to a real estate investment company, together with my twenty-six-plus years of experience, allows me to offer a unique perspective on the various matters handled by my office.

Paying attention to details and listening to the clients' concerns is of paramount importance. Putting the client at ease during this stressful time is most important. Analyzing the individual's situation and providing creative solutions, not just the obvious ones, allows us to stand apart for our colleagues.

I enjoy skiing, tennis and creative writing.
