I joined an existing office which had its primary focus on representation in divorce, custody, support and enforcement issues. The goal of the office has always tried to avoid a punitive approach as it will not benefit our client or the others involved, whether it is the other spouse, parent, or the child.
The firm has limited it practice to matrimonial and family law prior to my involvement to the present; the focus has always been on being active in and adding to profession through various bar associations. No. Consultation fee for Nolo referrals is $100 for however long is necessary; although the average consultation takes about an hour.
Uncontested divorces, i.e., settled before I am retained, with the other spouse cooperating, $1,750 plus Court fees ($370). There may be charges for extra services needed.

Nothing is more important than a well-educated client. Part of my job is providing the knowledge so that the client can make informed decisions about the issues. In the end, it is always the client's informed decisions that govern.
It helps for clients to prepare whatever they can with the assistance of myself or other members of my office. I am always looking for client input and assistance in getting the necessary work on their case done to get it done right and as quickly as practical.
While I understand that the education that a client or prospective client receives can help a pro se litigant, I always remember that full experience is no substitute for a little bit of knowledge and the expression that an attorney who represents him or herself has a fool for a client.
Prior to my going into private practice in 1979, I worked for the New York City Housing Authority trying to ensure that, as an attorney working for a government agency, the right thing was done.
My entire life has added to my abilities, from going out of my way to learn things academically, meeting with and discussing things with professionals in other areas (accountants and psychologists); having gone through the divorce process and having helped hundred go through the process.
While I feel I know matrimonial and family law as well as any individual can in New York, my instincts concerning the personalities involved are far more important. I also have learned to be candid and upfront to potential and actual clients, telling them what they have to hear, not just what they want to hear. My goal is to have a client look back and observe five years after my representation has ended that they are in the best place they could be under the circumstances, not that they got the last possible penny out of their divorce.Personal interests:
In addition to things involving law, I have always been very active athletically, from being on my high school and college swim teams, to becoming a runner, including completing at least 10 marathons; to being on co-ed softball teams and playing paddleball almost every weekend, along with other activities to remain in shape.
