Mr. Askew has more than 25 years of experience representing parties in bankruptcy proceedings and out of court-workouts, and has an active commercial and business litigaiton practice. Mr. Askew is rated AV Pre-eminent, 5 out of 5 by Martindale Hubbell, the highest possible Martindale Hubbell rating, is listed as Best Lawyers in America 2015 "Lawyer of the Year" for Albuquerque bankruptcy litigation, and is also listed in Southwest Super Lawyers. Mr. Askew is frequently a featured speaker for state bar legal education programs. From 1987 to 1989, Mr. Askew served as law clerk to the Honorable Stewart Rose, United States Bankruptcy Judge, District of New Mexico.

Mr. Mazel is a standing Chapter 7 panel trustee, selected by the Office of the United States Trustee. He is rated BV by Martindale Hubbell, and has received the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence in Bankruptcy and the Judge Oliver Seth Award for Excellence in Dispute Resolution. Mr. Mazel practiced bankruptcy law under the mentorship of Robert H. Jacobvitz, now the Honorable Robert H. Jacobvitz, Chief Judge, United States Bankruptcy Court, District of New Mexico. In addition, Mr. Mazel is dedicated to giving back to the State of New Mexico and is actively involved in multiple pro bono programs.

Mr. Askew and Mr. Mazel are joined by Mr. White, an up-and-coming New Mexico bankruptcy attorney, mentored in bankruptcy law by former Chief Judge James S. Starzynski. Mr. White's broad background includes co-authoring scientific papers, editing a book on philosophy, and meeting with U.S. senators and representatives on behalf of a multinational pharmaceutical company. From time to time, Mr. White provides pro bono assistance to the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center on asylum cases.

Currently, among other clients, Askew & Mazel, LLC represents Judith Wagner, Chapter 11 Trustee of the Vaughan Company Realtors, a real estate company through which the largest Ponzi scheme in New Mexico history was perpetrated. Jim Askew

Mr. Askew is a veteran litigator known for his practical outlook and his aggressive litigation techniques. Mr. Askew has over 25 years of experience representing parties on all sides of financial transactions, both in and out of court. Mr. Askew has represented both borrowers and lenders, and is dedicated to finding cost-effective solutions to client problems.

As a bankruptcy attorney, Mr. Askew is active in the New Mexico State Bar Bankruptcy Law Section and is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute. He regularly speaks at the New Mexico Bar Association's Annual Bankruptcy Year in Review, and has been a guest speaker at the University of New Mexico School of Law and other events.

Ed Mazel

Mr. Mazel is an experienced bankruptcy and creditor's rights attorney, who has represented national, regional and local banks as well as national businesses and a variety of other lenders. Additionally, Mr. Mazel has significant experience representing both debtors and creditors in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcies. Whether in bankruptcy or out, Mr. Mazel is experienced in negotiating and documenting all kinds of workouts and consensual solutions, including loan modifications, forbearance agreements, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, and settlements of various kinds.

Mr. Mazel is active in a variety of professional organizations, including the State Bar of New Mexico, Bankruptcy Law Section and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

In addition to his private practice, Mr. Mazel is personally dedicated to improving the lives of others, particularly those who may not be able to afford legal services. He has served as a volunteer arbitrator for the New Mexico State Bar's Fee Arbitration Program, regularly participates in the Wills for Heroes program to provide free wills to police officers, fire fighters, and other emergency personnel, and also provides pro bono legal services through the New Mexico State Bar's Volunteer Attorney Program.

Daniel White

Mr. White focuses his practice on bankruptcy litigation, and has represented a wide variety of clients, including state, local and regional banks, Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy trustees, and landlords, but also handles non-bankruptcy cases, including foreclosure and other real estate matters.

Prior to joining Askew & Mazel, Mr. White worked with Mr. Askew and Mr. Mazel at their previous firm. Mr. White was mentored in bankruptcy law by now-former Chief Judge James Starzynski of the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Mexico.
