Immigration Law
We are firm of immigrants helping immigrants. We are passionate about helping families like you stay together and in the U.S. Whether you need help with a green card or removal defense, we are here for you.
We are passionate about immigration. Mr. Mejer does things in twos. He lived in the Chile twice, Israel twice, and in the U.S. twice. He has lived the immigration experience, from being left back because he didn't speak English, to riding a bicycle to work in the middle of winter because he couldn't afford college tuition and a car.

We believe that an informed client is the best client. That is why Mr. Mejer became a speaker, author, and attorney to help immigrants learn about their rights. He also created a FREE no obligation tool that will tell you if you qualify for legal status.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

I love what I do, keeping families together. There is no more rewarding feeling than helping a family get a green card through a family based petition or through trial. I know I make a difference every day in people's lives. I solve real problems, and I love it.

I didn't always love it. I used to be a litigator for a medium sized law firm defending insurance companies. I hated it! I have always helped friends and family with their immigration needs, but it was just for fun. The more I got involved with the Hispanic community in New Jersey, the more I realized that huge need that existed. There are very few good Spanish speaking Hispanic attorneys, even fewer concentrating in Immigration law. Andres Mejer Law was born

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

We focus on the customer experience. From the first phone call to the day we celebrate you getting your green card, you know this isn't just another law firm. Since almost all of us at Andres Mejer Law lived through the immigration experience, we truly understand your struggles. We love helping you overcome them, and it shows.

If there is a solution to your immigration challenge, you can bet there is someone at Andres Mejer Law who won't rest until we find it.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I love it! I became a speaker and author to help clients learn about immigration and naturalization. You can find my most recent book, "Secrets of Deferred Action," on our website. "Do You Qualify for U.S. Legal Status," a primer on the 9 principal paths to legal status, will be released soon.

I am a frequent lecturer at churches, non-profits, and charitable organizations that focus on helping their immigrant clients or parishioners. I love the question and answer period at the end, because everyone comes to these events with there one question.

Andres Mejer

I was born in Santiago, Chile, as was my mother. My father is from Rosario, Argentina. I grew up in a Spanish speaking home.

We first entered the United State as tourists and overstayed our visas in 1981. We were undocumented for until President Reagan passed a law allowing us to become legal residence. For nearly a decade we had no legal status. Meaning my parents could not legally work or get a driver's license.

When the law changed, my parents went to someone they thought they could trust to help them achieve legal status. They were wrong. They paid thousands of dollars and got nothing. They were the victims of fraud, like so many others.

We finally did get our green cards in 1989. Then in 1996, we left the United States never having filed for our Citizenship. We thought we could do it from our home country. After so many years living in the U.S., of course they wouldn't deny us. We were wrong. I nearly lost my green card. In 1998 I returned to the U.S., and in 1999 I became a Citizen. My father and sister were not so fortunate and they lost their green cards.

I became a speaker, author, and attorney to help others avoid our mistakes. Education is your best defense. You must know your rights. If you qualify for a legal benefit, don't wait apply today.

I graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. I went on to Brooklyn Law School where I met my wife. We have two beautiful kids and live in Long Branch, New Jersey. I am a Commissioner of the Long Branch Housing Authority, a member of the Board on the Monmouth Family Health Center, and a member of the Board of Brothers of Israel.

Kimberly Mejer

Kimberly S. Mejer received B.A. in Comparative Literature from Brandeis University in 1992 and an M.A. in French from Columbia University in 1994. She received her Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in 2001. Ms. Mejer has worked at general civil litigation firms in New York and New Jersey on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants for nearly 10 years.

As a mother and a professional, Ms. Mejer understands first hand the negative effects of a disruption in the family. Whether a client is seeking to dissolve a marriage and protect children, or whether one is injured and unable to work or care for family members, Ms. Mejer can help minimize those negative effects within a legal framework and restore stability to the family.

She is a member of the New York State Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the Courts of the States of New York and New Jersey.

Mario Gonzalez, Jr.

Mario is an associate attorney and we couldn't be more proud. He is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and New York.

Mario was raised in the South Bronx by a single mother on welfare, and he was blessed to be able to move out of the inner city and pursue his education.

For the first half of his career, Mario worked with large defense contractors in high level positions. He then had an epiphany and started working for community nonprofits, helping battered women, troubled youth, and artists who couldn't afford to protect their rights, among others.
Along the way, Mario became an ordained minister, serving as a chaplain and working with terminally ill HIV/AIDS patients. He established the state-of-the-art Hope Center Arts facility, where he works as CEO to bring the arts to kids.

Mario's favorite part of working at Andres Mejer Law is using his skills and education to help people. He loves helping people in deep and lasting ways. It is this passion to help that drove him to law school later in life. He felt "called" to become an attorney. In fact, he views law as an extension of his ministry.

In his spare time, Mario has many hobbies, including classical guitar playing, jazz, Latin music, and biking.
