Moses Law Office

Firm Overview

I began my own law firm in 1991, right out of law school. Even during those periods in which I worked for other corporations or organizations, I maintained a select group of private business clients. My law firm's primary purpose and mission is to promote and secure legal, social, and economic justice for all. At the heart of that mission is a deep-rooted commitment to helping empower individuals and communities to influence and to control their own destinies.

Moses Law has a diverse clientele who come from all walks of life. They include individuals, small businesses, entrepreneurs, entertainers, technology companies, construction companies, child daycare centers, real estate investors, inventors, federal, state, county and city employees, union members, corporate employees, school teachers, IT professionals, retail businesses, restaurants, churches, nonprofit organizations, as well as, couples, families, and senior citizens. Minority and women-owned business enterprises in Columbus, Ohio comprise a significant portion of the firm's clientele.

Moses Law provides clients with legal advice, counsel, and representation in personal and business matters, transactions, administrative proceedings, and court hearings. Business law is our primary area of practice. To that end, Moses Law provides business advisory and legal services to Ohio entrepreneurs, start-up ventures, and growth-oriented businesses from business planning and formation through sale or other disposition of the business. We also advise and counsel clients concerning asset protection and basic estate planning.

We guide our clients through the development of business plans, choosing a form of business, corporate and limited liability company structuring decisions, funding and financing, contracts negotiation, regulatory compliance, technology and Internet issues, and real estate matters, among others.

Intelligent business and legal planning is essential when starting a new business to ensure business growth and long term success. We endeavor to ensure that our clients are well prepared to grow their businesses and avoid the pitfalls many encounter when not represented by an experienced Ohio business attorney.

Example cases

As a young lawyer, I assisted a husband and wife (my first business clients) in forming a small construction company. The husband had worked for many years as a laborer and a mason. I continued to provide legal advice, counsel, and representation as the company grew to be a successful, multi-million dollar enterprise that was recognized by the SBA as a Small Business of the Year. After, 19 years, they are going strong and are still one of my favorite clients.

Provided legal advice, counsel, and representation to client in multi-million dollar business acquisition and real estate transaction where the client had retired from her employment, relocated to Central Ohio, and purchased an existing business enterprise.

Provided legal advice and counsel to a nonprofit community development corporation concerning multi-million dollar tax credit transactions for affordable housing.

Free Initial Consultation?
Yes, if you hire me. This means that your $50 consultation fee is credited towards your legal fees if you hire me. So, the consultation fee is $50. You pay that when you come in.

Let's say you want me to form a single member LLC (limited liability company) for you. The fee for that may be $495. If you hire me, the $50 is credited towards the $495 which brings the cost of LLC down to $445. If you decide not to hire me, I receive $50 for the legal advice and counsel I gave you during the consultation. You leave the meeting better informed and with some additional knowledge you didn't have when you came in.
Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Quite honestly, entrepreneurship is in my blood. Maybe it was out of necessity, but as far back as I can remember my family members have always had businesses. As a young boy growing up in rural Louisiana, I remember my grandmother owning a cafe where she sold food to customers. My great-grandfather, following emancipation from slavery in Virginia, moved to Georgia where he became a farmer. (There is nothing more entrepreneurial than owning and operating a farm.) And the list goes on and on.

I see economic independence and self-sufficiency as a primary component of freedom. An individual's, a family's, and a community's economic resources greatly impact their ability to determine, pursue, and achieve their own destinies.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I fully support and believe clients should educate themselves on legal issues. Do this to increase your knowledge and understanding and to help you make better informed decisions. Self-help education is not a substitute for quality legal advice, counsel, and representation. No book or online document service can substitute for me, your lawyer.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I offer document review services. Sometimes, it is better and more cost efficient to simply hire me to prepare the document.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

I offer legal coaching services.

Ambrose Moses

Over the years, I have worked as a Staff Attorney for a legal aid society, as an Associate General Counsel of a labor union, and as a Contract Specialist for an Internet company specializing in electronic commerce.

I am the sum total of all that I have experienced, learned, and believe. Over the years, I have come to define "the law" as a tool that is used by society to create, maintain, modify, and destroy relationships between people, places, and things. This framework enables me to give clients balanced, strategic, and practical legal advice.

During the last several years, I have, and continue to, assist in organizing and providing training as a professional lecturer and presenter in business development programs sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Ohio Department of Development, the Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Central Ohio Minority Business Association (COMBA), and the Ohio Business Development Group (OBDG).

As a business lawyer, I have advised, counseled, and represented small businesses and entrepreneurs. I routinely draft, revise, and negotiate documents related to the establishment and financing of small and start-up businesses, such as articles of incorporation, shareholder agreements, operating agreements, corporate by-laws, investment agreements, lease agreements, and strategic business plans.

My strengths are my wide range of experience and knowledge. I am also very strategic and analytical. I serve as my clients' professional advisor, assisting them in making informed decisions.

Personal interests:

Quite honestly, I work too much. But, I have been devoting more time to computer programming as one of my hobbies.
