Warner F. Young, III

Warner Young is an experienced trial lawyer. He represents business and corporations in complex business disputes, often offering success fee based services. He represents the seriously injured in professional negligence (medical and legal), products liability (aviation, medical devices and pharmacological), and other personal injury cases. Mr. Young has particular expertise in representing people who have suffered traumatic brain injuries. He has obtained for his clients million dollar verdicts and settlements in Virginia and nationally. As a result of obtaining large recoveries for his clients, Mr. Young has developed expertise in wealth preservation, including estate planning, drafting of wills and trusts and administration of estates and trusts. He also has extensive experience in trust and estate litigation. Mr. Young represents diverse clients such as national clinical laboratories and small technology and service businesses in commercial litigation matters ranging from business torts to contract disputes. Since graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1984, Mr. Young has been a frequent lecturer on evidence, medical/legal issues, and trial techniques. Stephen D. Halfhill

Steve Halfhill concentrates in business, security, commodity and regulatory law, as well as domestic relations, traffic/criminal matters and general litigation. After receiving his J.D. Degree from West Virginia University in 1974, Mr. Halfhill entered the United States Army where he served as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. Upon completion of his military service, Mr. Halfhill became an Assistant Director in the Commodity Future Trading Commission's Division of Enforcement and later was Special Counsel to the Director of the Commodity Future Trading Commission's Division of Trading & Markets. He has been in private practice since 1981, and is a member of the Bars of the District of Columbia, Virginia, and West Virginia. In addition, he is experienced in major federal litigation nationally, and is an experienced appellate practice as well as domestic relations, criminal, traffic, business and homeowners'/condominium association law.

James T. Bacon

James T. Bacon has represented foreign banks and exchange houses, corporations, municipalities and individuals in complex commercial and business matters, helping them navigate disputes and protecting them from pitfalls for over 30 years. Mr. Bacon provides his clients aggressive and innovative business strategies designed to fully capitalize on the particular strengths of each client. Always willing to advocate a unique or difficult case, he is licensed in the state and federal courts of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. He received his law degree from the American University School of Law, has a varied trial and appellate practice, is active in the Defense Research Institute and has served as a lecturer at trial advocacy seminars. Matthew C. Indrisano

Matthew C. Indrisano graduated from George Mason University School of Law in 2003. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Indrisano worked as a law clerk for Forfeiture Support Associates assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration and later worked as an associate for the Fairfax, Virginia law firm of McGeehan & Associates, PLC. Mr. Indrisano is a member of the Virginia State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia. He has experience in civil and commercial litigation, bankruptcy, landlord and tenant law, traffic violations, collection matters, and homeowners'/condominium association law. Mr. Indrisano provides bankruptcy services to consumers and federal law requires that he be identified as a Debt Relief Agency. Mr. Indrisano helps people file bankruptcy in Virginia under the United States Bankruptcy Code.

Matthew G. Williams

Matthew G. Williams is an experienced litigator, representing small businesses and individuals throughout Northern Virginia. Mr. Williams excels at helping small business clients in all their needs, from formation to contract drafting, litigation, debt collection, landlord/tenant representation, regulatory compliance, buy/sell agreements, and everything in between. He also practices family law, representing clients in divorces, custody and support matters, and adoptions. Mr. Williams has written numerous successful appeals to the Board of Immigration appeals, and handles appeals to the Fourth Circuit, the Virginia Court of Appeals, and the Virginia Supreme Court. Kenneth W. Curtis

Mr. Curtis joined the firm in 2009 with more than 25 years experience as a respected trial lawyer. Since 1988, Mr. Curtis has devoted his practice to representing injured parties. His philosophy is reflected in the language of justice: fairness, integrity and respect.

He began his legal career as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in Virginia, and gained valuable trial experience with a firm specializing in insurance defense litigation. As Plaintiff's counsel, he has handled numerous general liability and wrongful death matters, complex medical malpractice cases, including catastrophic birth injury, traumatic brain injury, obstetrical malpractice, psychiatric malpractice involving suicide, plastic and reconstructive surgery, infectious diseases, pharmacology, cardiac misdiagnoses, elevator and airplane accidents, construction defect matters, and intellectual property litigation involving misappropriation of trade secrets and proprietary information, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, copyright infringement, conspiracy, fraud, and violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Curtis was an adjunct professor at The International School of Law and The George Mason University School of Law, teaching forensic evidence and directing the legal intern program. He was also an instructor at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. Mr. Curtis was a founding member and past President of The George Mason American Inns of Court at The George Mason University School of Law.

Mr. Curtis is well known in Virginia for his knowledge of evidence and expert testimony, and is a co-author of Virginia Objections at Trial, the trial lawyer's handbook for the law of evidence in Virginia. Mr. Curtis is a frequent lecturer in Virginia on the topics of expert testimony, the preparation and use of evidence at trial, and has been a testifying expert witness in professional negligence matters.

Mr. Curtis received Martindale-Hubbell's highest peer-reviewed rating of AV, has been named as a "Super Lawyer" and recognized by Northern Virginia Magazine. In 2015, he was inducted into The National Trial Lawyers Top 100, Civil Plaintiff section. A leading techno-lawyer, he has lectured state-wide on the use of the iPad for Lawyers in conjunction with the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.

For the past twelve years, Mr. Curtis has been a member of the faculty at the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia, a nationally recognized program for trial attorneys. In 2015, along with US District Court Judge Robert Conrad, Mr. Curtis was honored as a recipient of the Brennan Award established in 1987 in honor of Justice William J. Brennan, Jr., United States Supreme Court. Honorees are selected on the basis of their outstanding skills as trial lawyers and members of the judiciary, their invaluable contributions to the UVA Trial Advocacy College and to the legal profession. Congratulations to Ken on this most distinguished honor.

John D. Pellegrin

John D. Pellegrin, Of Counsel to the firm, specializes in business matters, advising new and established companies, entrepreneurs and consultants on transactional issues. This includes business succession planning, employment, franchising, and multi-faceted business strategy issues. He also has an extensive practice and experience in the fields of Intellectual Property (trademark, copyright, patent coordination/referral, computer/Internet, entertainment, media, literary & agency) project management & coordination, consulting, communications, government contracting, international, non-profit organizations, litigation, and wills/trusts/estates. Formerly a member of the Federal Communications Commission's legal staff, Mr. Pellegrin is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and New York. He holds degrees from Georgetown University (Management), and Fordham University (J.D.). He holds an AV (highest) rating from Martindale Hubbell, the international directory of practicing attorneys. Sefton K. Smith

Sefton Smyth graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2004, where he was involved in the Lyle Moot Court Competition, the Virginia Sports and Entertainment Law Journal, and the Criminal Defense Clinic. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Smyth worked with his father at the firm of Smyth & Smyth Attorneys. Mr. Smyth is licensed to practice in Virginia State courts, Eastern District of Virginia, Maryland State and Federal courts and the District of Columbia.
