Lori G. Levin, Attorney at Law

After nearly twenty years in government, I opened a private practice in 2009. I use my wealth of experience in criminal, juvenile and mental health law to help persons who find themselves in the criminal justice system. My trial skills as well as my vast knowledge have aided me to build a successful private practice where I vigorously fight for my clients.

From 2003 through June 2009, I served as Executive Director of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, the state agency dedicated to improving criminal justice statewide. I was appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Illinois State Senate. I oversaw $100M+ in federal and state criminal justice research and grants; chaired the Illinois Integrated Justice Information Systems Implementation Board; Chaired the Illinois Task Force for Update of Model Domestic Violence Protocol, and served of the Illinois Violence prevention Authority, Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Council, Illinois Sex Offender Management Board, City of Chicago Mayor's Domestic Violence Advisory Council, Statewide Juvenile Justice ReDeploy Illinois Steering Committee, Governor's Community Safety and Reentry Working Group, Metropolis 2020's Justice Violence Index Advisory Council, GoTo 2040 Crime and Justice Planning Initiative Advisory Board, and the State of Illinois. My experiences as the director of the state criminal justice agency bring to my client's unique skill sets and experiences throughout the criminal justice system that augment my extensive trial experience.

From 1980 through 2003, I served as a prosecutor in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. From 1998-2003, I was the Supervisor of the Seniors and Persons with Disabilities/Mental Health Divisions, supervising, directing and prosecuting financial crimes, violent crimes and abuse cases and supervising the civil commitment and forced treatment of mentally ill persons in crisis. I also worked on policy and training issues for lawyers and law enforcement. One of the jewels of my tenure in that position was serving on the planning committee for the first Felony Criminal Mental Health Court in the nation. My experiences in that position bring to my clients the knowledge and experience of dealing with and helping persons in crisis and having knowledge of mental health law and alternatives.

Other assignments in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office included serving 14 years in the Felony Criminal Courts at 26th and California, a decade of which I was a First Chair Prosecutor handling very complicated and serious felonies; Juvenile Court, Felony Review, and Preliminary Hearings. During my tenure with the prosecutor's office, I tried 50+ felony and civil juries.

The totality of my professional life, whether my excellent law school education, my trial experience both as a prosecutor and defense counsel and my administrative role improving criminal justice policy that deeply impacts the individuals in the system, make me a better attorney. Additionally, my passion, tenacity and creativity make me effective both within the courtroom and outside of it.

I am bright, creative and passionate. Those attributes translate into a vigorous defense for my clients.
