I have a passion for helping people one-on-one. When I graduated from Howard University School of Law, I was committed to setting up a legal practice where the impact of my legal training would be realized immediately. Bankruptcy is that area of law. Bankruptcy clients are struggling with a myriad of financial problems including debt collectors calling all times of day and night, garnishment, foreclosure, and repossession just to name a few. Bankruptcy provides immediate relief.
As an experienced bankruptcy attorney, I am afforded the unique privilege of helping people solve their financial challenges. For me, it's an honor to help a single parent, married couple, senior citizen, young person, recently unemployed or anyone else get a fresh start through bankruptcy.
Simply put, EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE. When you practice anything over and over again, you become very skilled at it. For over 15 years, I have practiced bankruptcy law.
My practice is not a "jack of all trades" type of practice. I do not dabble in this area of law one month and another area another month. I have been practicing bankruptcy law, almost exclusively, for over 15 years. I know the intricacies of bankruptcy law. When I talk to a potential client, I listen for situations which are similar to other cases I have handled and those which are unique. My vast experience allows me to quickly and inexpensively resolve problems less experienced attorneys would charge a great deal to resolve.
Unlike other bankruptcy attorneys, I make the process as easy as possible for my clients. I do not give you a bunch of confusing forms to fill out or pass you off to an assistant after taking your money. I actually do the work.
As the owner of my solo practice, I am able to be flexible. For example, many people cannot meet during the week because they have to work. I offer Saturday hours to accommodate their schedules. One client could not ride on an elevator to meet with me so I met her at a nearby coffee shot.

No. Coaching a bankruptcy client could create an attorney/client relationship. Once an attorney/client relationship is established, the attorney is on the hook if anything goes wrong with the case. It is a bad idea for a person to represent him/herself in bankruptcy. Too much can go wrong. Over the years, I have seen too many unrepresented individuals in court make common mistakes and then struggle to save their assets from being seized by the bankruptcy trustee. Yes, it costs money to hire an attorney but the consequences of not hiring an experienced bankruptcy attorney can be devastating.
I highly recommend that clients educate themselves before, during and after filing bankruptcy. There is a television commercial of a company which uses the motto "[a]n educated consumer is our best customer." I agree. My best clients are those who are knowledgeable about bankruptcy. These clients ask lots of questions and are well-prepared when we meet. On the other hand, I recognize that most people do not have the time or desire to educate themselves on bankruptcy. That's okay too. I am happy to work with my clients at whatever level of understanding of bankruptcy they have.
