Example Cases

Vance & Whitley practices family law, civil litigation, business law, trial law, criminal law and offers law services for domestic violence cases, child protective services, adoption and more. Our San Antonio firm focuses on the client as a whole person and not just a person with a legal need.

Example Cases:
1. We represented TH through a protective order proceeding after her husband threatened to slice her breasts off her body; she is now well and safe.
2. Our firm guided KP through a difficult mediation after his wife's numerous affairs and threats to keep the children away from him, just out of spite.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

At Vance & Whitley, we believe in efficient, thoughtful cost initiatives, embracing the concept of partnering with clients to reduce fees. These San Antonio divorce lawyers teach their clients how to diminish their legal expenses by doing the work of paralegals and investigators. We give you a choice; we'll do it all or help you to represent yourself.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Vance & Whitley's Bexar County lawyers embrace partnerships with clients. Many clients work as their own paralegals, or as their own investigators. We evaluate legal forms for accuracy and teach people how to present their cases.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Vance & Whitley San Antonio family lawyers know change is here. We offer legal coaching and legal services for Bexar county. If you wish, we will do it all. But if you need to watch your costs, we offer counsel and planning services on an as-needed basis.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Many Texans are attempting to file their own lawsuits, sometimes with only help from a lawyer. Not all legal dilemmas need detailed arguments. In many instances, legal problems can be managed with a team approach, using a limited arrangement of lawyer time to assist in the ultimate positive conclusion. Lawyers now may help with portions of a client's case. Vance & Whitley family law attorneys are permitted to unbundle their talents, providing counsel and planning on an as-needed basis.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

Vance & Whitley is a team. We pull the expertise needed from each team player, using the lowest cost method to diminish our client's legal expenses.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Collaborative law is always the preferred approach. However we protect our clients. If litigation becomes necessary, our skilled family litigators are ready and prepared.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

Our lawyers feel change will only come through the community and have spent their lives involved in the people in this community.

Ms. Vance was elected to the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas in 2003 & has retained that status every year since. The Pro Bono College recognizes those attorneys who have far exceeded the State Bar's aspirational pro bono goal in their efforts to address the vast unmet legal needs of the poor by providing a significant number of hours of eligible pro bono service during the previous year.
Ms. Whitley has managed and provided legal services for her family's dental business on the eastside of San Antonio. Working for an underserved community has been, and continues to be, extraordinarily rewarding and fulfilling for Ms. Whitley's personal life and beliefs. After observing how many low income families had difficulty accessing dental care, Ms .Whitley and her family created two mobile dental clinics that currently cater to patients in south Texas.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Lisa Vance, family law lawyer, has been awarded top honors in her field for over 20 years, and has been AV-rated for over 20 years. She has great skills as a litigator as does her partner, Ms Whitley.

But what makes our firm different is that we care about each client. Our attorneys know what it feels like to live through the anxiety of failed commercial or family relationships that find their way into a courtroom. We work within family law to protect parents and grandparents' rights of access to a child. We see each client as an individual; our San Antonio family lawyers listen and care.
