The Merna Law Group, PC was established in 2003. Mr. Merna was formerly a partner in the Los Angeles-based firm of Lozano & Merna, PLC.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

An educated client is an asset in an attorney-client partnership. Our firm participates daily on several forums, including Avvo.com, answering questions from the public on a variety of legal issues.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes. We do “for fee” reviews of client prepared documents. There are some restrictions placed on us by the State Bar.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Unfortunately, the cost of having an attorney coach generally exceeds the cost of hiring us to do the case. However, we are happy to assist as long as the client understands this.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes. However, the courts have rules on when they will consider an attorney as “representing” a client. If the arrangement is just one of assisting we will not “appear” in the case on their behalf.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

We balance service and continuity with cost-efficiency. We believe our services are affordable and you will have one attorney assigned to you who will guide you through the whole process.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Yes. Our belief is that a client saves money and is generally happier with an “agreement” then a result brought on by an expensive and drawn-out litigation in court.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

We do. We have worked closely with legal aid services in the past. However, we reserve the right to select our candidates for pro bono assistance.

Free initial 30 minute bankruptcy consultations, Divorce consultations are $75, however, this fee is applied to any future services should you decide to retain us when you come in, which in essence makes the consult free.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
