Firm Focus
At The Law Offices of Perry Liss, we focus on providing our clients an experience they will not regret undertaking. We treat all of your clients, whether they are paying client or contingency basis clients, with the highest level of personal respect. We are always reachable, and return any phone call the same day or next morning at the very latest. Unlike other larger firms where you may not talk to your actual attorney for months at a time, Mr. Liss remains in close contact with all of our clients. We focus on making sure that every question you may have is answered, and every request is fulfilled. We can never guarantee a victory, but we will always guarantee that we will do anything and everything in our ability to make sure you end up with an outcome that you can be happy with.
Firm History
The firm was established in April of 2010. From our first day in business until now, we have grown exponentially. When we began we focused only on Landlord/Tenant issues and had just one attorney and a secretary. Within a year and a half we hired a full time office manager, a full time legal assistant, and a second attorney. We now handle everything from Social Security Disability appeals to Personal Injury claims to Criminal Defense matters, and still handle a large amount of Landlord/Tenant related issues.
Example Cases
Commonwealth v. Ricky Myers — Mr. Liss represented a 20 year old boy who was wrongfully accused of conspiring to commit robbery, and committing robbery, as well as possession of an instrument of crime. Ricky Myers was looking at possibly serving ten to fifteen years in state prison. Mr. Liss brought the case to trial in front of a jury in Philadelphia and received a verdict of Not Guilty on all three charges.
Mr. Liss represented a five year old little girl named Layla in her SSI claim in Philadelphia. Layla had been sexually assaulted by an Uncle at the age of three. The horrible incident caused Layla to become depressed at such a young age. She was diagnosed with PTSD. Her mother did not have the means to care for her and provide her with the type of treatment she clearly needed. Mr. Liss fought her denied claim for SSI benefits, and eventually received a fully favorable decision after a hearing in front of an Administrative Law Judge. Layla's mother can now afford to give Layly the help she needs, and very much deserves.
What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
We believe that the first step to being successful in your case is for you to educate yourself on everything that is going on. While we are the experts and always here for you to fight side by side, no one cares as much about your own case as you do. Therefore, if you do not do everything in your power to assist on your own behalf, you are selling yourself short.
Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?
Yes.
Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
Yes. We provide free consultations and give as much advice in this area as we possibly can.
Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?
It really depends on what type of case/issue that it is, but yes we would be open to helping in only one part of a case in the right scenario.
What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?
We do everything in our power to give clients a flat rate for the work we provide rather than billing hourly. Mr. Liss started this firm because he did not like the way larger firms practiced law. We never milk a case to make it take longer than it should simply to get more billable hours out of our clients. In the minority of instances where we do have to bill hourly for work, we are more than happy to allow our legal assistant to do as much of it as she possibly can because we bill her out at the lowest hourly rate, and therefore can save our clients money.
How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?
At The Law Offices of Perry Liss, the thing we do the very best is negotiate. We attempt to settle a high majority of our cases through negotiation because we know it is usually in our clients' best interest to resolve things quickly and without the need to go through the entire legal process.
Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?
Yes we do. We would love to do more pro-bono work, but for now we do what we can. Mr. Liss is currently working pro-bono on a Post Conviction Relief Act appeal of a wrongful criminal conviction. Our client was found guilty by a Philadelphia Judge mainly because his original attorney did a terrible job handling the trial. Rather than letting a young man sit in jail for six years due to this mistake his previous attorney made, we felt it necessary to do whatever we can to get him out of prison despite the fact that he did not have the funds to pay.
What distinguishes your law firm from others?
We are young, but at the same time very experienced. Being young, we have to make a name for ourselves and achieve enough notoriety to continue expanding our firm. That is something you likely will not get with an older, more established firm who has already made their name, and their money. We are affordable, but get tremendous results for our clients. We are personable, respectable, reachable, and never leave a client feeling unfulfilled. Even if you are one of the few clients we are unsuccessful in representing, at the end of our representation, we will part ways with you knowing that we did everything we possibly could to help you.
