Firm History

Phillips and Lyon was founded in 1977 by Gary Phillips and Gregory Lyon. They are still the senior partners of the firm and very active in the practice. The Law Firm of Phillips and Lyon believes the most experienced attorneys should be the ones responsible for making the decisions that shape the outcome of your case. What good is hiring a law firm if the most experienced attorneys are not handling your case? At Phillips and Lyon each case is handled by an attorney with at least 20 years of personal injury experience.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The attorney client relationship is most effective if we work together as a partnership to obtain the best result for the client. This partnership involves communication and the client's detailed education of the subject matter. Our legal assistants and attorneys work hard to make sure each client is kept up-to-date about their case, is aware of the process and timeline of their claim, and is educated about the legal issues.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Our practice is limited to personal injury and we are accustomed to drafting all documents required during the course of representation. There is no need for the client to draft documents.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We offer a FREE initial consultation during which time a prospective client learns a great deal about their legal situation. If at the end of the consultation it appears the individual is better off without an attorney, we will give them some free pointers on how to handle their case on their own.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

Our fee is based upon a percentage versus an hourly rate. Which means we really want to do the best job possible for you. We don't get paid unless you get paid! We want the most experienced attorneys involved as much as possible so we do not do that. Dividing the legal work among less experienced attorneys may not provide the best result possible. It does not cost the client any more to have the most experienced attorneys working on their case. Gary Phillips has been practicing law since 1972, Greg Lyon has been practicing law since 1974 and Henry Hester has been practicing law since1974. Mr. Hester is an Arizona Bar Certified Specialist in Injury and Wrongful Death.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Mediation in nearly always in the best interest of the client; unfortunately insurance companies must agree to mediation before it can take place. We believe in mediation whole heartedly but, candidly, insurance companies often times will not cooperate.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

Unlike most law firms in Arizona, Mr. Phillips and Mr. Lyon, the senior partners of the firm, are still actively practicing and handling cases for the firm. If you call for an initial consultation you will usually speak directly to Mr. Phillips or Mr. Lyon. They supervise every case and are directly involved with all decisions related to your case to ensure the most experienced attorneys are working to get you a better settlement. Fixed-Price Services and Fees

We offer a special internet referral fee of 25% for non litigated cases and 33% for litigated cases (plus costs). Our standard fee is 29% and 37% if your case needs to be litigated (plus costs). Even our standard fee is lower than most of our competition.
