Founded eight years ago by three partners in Boston, it has expanded to 18 attorneys in Boston and Washington, D.C., offering full service of litigation, corporate, employment, intellectual property, real estate, government and mediation.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

The better educated the client is, the deeper the conversation can be.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes, though it is usually more efficient just to draft them myself.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

No.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

If it can be sectioned off discretely, then yes.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

I prefer to bill at a single, flat rate for the entire case, so this should not matter to the client. If it is a case billed by the hour, then we make every effort to get the work done as cheaply for the client as possible.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Frequently.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

I represent health clients through Health Law Advocates, and internet cases through the Berkman Center on the Internet and Society at Harvard.

I offer a free initial consultation lasting as long as I need to understand the case.

Typical Retainer

Again, it depends on the case, usually $1,000 to $5,000.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
