What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

McArthur Law Firm not only encourages clients to educate themselves regarding legal issues in their cases, but actively participates in that education. It is important that a client fully participate in his or her case and this can only be accomplished if the clients understand the issues involved.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Though we do not encourage clients to prepare their own documents, we do encourage clients who prepare documents to have them reviewed before relying upon them. For example, if a client drafts a contract, the contract should be reviewed by an attorney before it is signed. Likewise, if a client prepares a Motion to Modify, that motion should be reviewed by an attorney to make sure that it includes everything required by the court.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

McArthur Law Firm is willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves. However, most clients find that it is not that much more expensive to have the attorney represent them fully and it is certainly less stressful.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

In certain special circumstances, such as a divorce case that requires the preparation of a QDRO to split a retirement account, McArthur Law Firm does split up parts of a case. However, most cases do not lend themselves to such partition.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

McArthur Law Firm makes every effort to divide work so that fees incurred by the client are minimized. This includes lower rates for clerical tasks.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Knowing that litigation is very stressful on the client, McArthur Law Firm makes every effort to settle cases before trial. This includes the use of informal settlement negotiations and mediation. Arbitration is used when required by law or under a contract. McArthur Law Firm does not practice collaborative law.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

McArthur Law Firm takes on a limited amount of pro bono matters through community involvement with Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

McArthur Law Firm believes that every client is an individual, with their own unique legal and personal issues. Many large firms cannot and do not take the time to really get to know the client and their issues and goals. At McArthur Law Firm, we take the time to visit with each client about their unique situation and how they would like their issues resolved.

McArthur Law Firm offers a one-hour free initial consultation.

Typical Retainer

The retainer fee required in a hourly rate case depends greatly upon the type of case. For example, the retainer in a simple divorce where the parties are expected to sign an agreed order would be significantly lower than the retainer in a hotly contested divorce with property and custody issues.
