Personal Injury
Luhrsen Law Group represents victims of serious automobile crashes and liquor liability with a special emphasis on drunk driving and under-age drinking victims.
Based in Sarasota, FL, Luhrsen Law Group travels across the State of Florida representing victims of serious automobile crashes. Our special niche and expertise relates to alcohol liability victims: (1) Drunk driving victims; and (2) and under-age victims of parents and adults wrongfully providing alcohol and/or drugs.

Extending beyond the court room, Attorney Jeff Luhrsen and Firm Administrator Matt Bower are volunteer lobbyists for various alcohol coalitions working to enhance and strengthen laws at our State's Capitol relating to under-age drinking, providing alcohol to minors and general alcohol liability.

How did your firm decide on the primary area of practice(s)?

Following stints as active-duty lawyers in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, attorneys Jeff Luhrsen and Julie Luhrsen returned to Florida and began practicing injury law in the late 1990's. Helping the injured pursue justice against wrongdoers was a logical progression from the years the two spent helping soldiers and their families with legal problems. The common thread for them was about helping their clients get back on their feet and on the road to recovery -- literally and figuratively.

In the course of their work, both also developed a keen desire to help those who were victimized as a result of an alcohol-related incident. In their mind, injuries (or deaths) resulting from alcohol abuse and under-age drinking are no accident; they are completely preventable. Victims of alcohol-related incidents look to Luhrsen Law Group to hold those responsible accountable -- by pursuing compensation for their losses and also by working to prevent similar incidents within the community.

What experience or education distinguishes your lawyers from others

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Luhrsen Law Group with four attorneys and a select group of non-attorney support staff dedicate themselves to reaching the best outcome possible for our clients. Providing superior legal work while also offering top-notch customer service is our goal. To do that, we seek to keep our clients well-informed about the progress of their cases while allowing them the time to focus on their recovery. As appropriate, we also strive to provide our clients with the information necessary to understand the issues in their cases and to offer them thoughtful, reasoned recommendations so that they, in turn, can make well-informed decisions. Simply put, "knowledge is power!"

In order to best attain these goals, we are selective as to the cases we handle. This, in turn, allows us to devote the time, attention and energy that every client deserves.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

While many cases settle in the pre-lawsuit phase, not all do. Cases in litigation are required to go through the mediation process prior to trial. Our litigation team, which handles all aspects of a lawsuit (from discovery to mediation to trial) works to set our litigation files up so that they can be successfully brought to a conclusion at mediation (or thereafter). As a result, many of our litigation cases are resolved short of trial.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

Yes. Luhrsen Law Group attorneys and staff volunteer their time with various community organiations. Our volunteer efforts include everything from service on the boards of local non-profits to coaching youth sports to legislative lobbying work on behalf of community non-profit agencies to participating in fundraising walk-a-thons and the like. For more details about our community service, please visit www.Luhrsen.com.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

Keeping in mind that personal injury cases are generally handled on a contingency fee basis (no attorneys fees or costs owed unless and until a recovery is received), we are functionally organized so that some attorneys and staff devote their time to cases in the pre-lawsuit phase while others work on cases that could not be resolved short of litigation. Divisonal functions are designed precisely to provide the very best legal service and to be efficient to our client's needs.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

As mentioned, we believe that "knowledge is power." So, an integral part of what we do is help our clients understand the process; get their questions answered; stay up to speed on the progress of their cases; gain awareness as to any risks or challenges in their cases; and make well-informed decisions by providing them with thoughtful and reasoned advice and counsel.

Jeffrey Luhrsen

I work on behalf of the injured every day because of the sense of purpose and enjoyment that work gives me. Working hard, taking pride in those efforts, and helping others combined with my broad educational background, diverse legal experience and extensive courtroom practice make for a combination that I feel best ensures that Florida families are well represented against the big insurance companies that defend the negligent.

I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you more about how I and the firm can assist you and your family.

About Me and My Background

My belief in the importance of service and hard work got its firmest root nearly 30 years ago, when fresh out of Plant High School in Tampa, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. As I worked to support myself, fulfill my military obligations and attend school full time, I gained a real pride of ownership in whatever job I undertook. Though sometimes a lot to juggle, with determination I proudly graduated from both college and from law school. Along the way, my law school efforts led to a number of academic awards, including merit scholarships, and opportunities serving on the Moot Court Board, interning with the Federal Judiciary, and helping fellow students as a Teaching Fellow. It all came together in a way that I believe prepared me well for the practice of personal injury law and the trial work that these cases often bring.

After law school, I once again looked to the military as a way of testing my skills as a lawyer. During my U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps years, I had the honor of serving with and providing legal assistance to soldiers and got my initial courtroom experience trying cases as a military prosecutor and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice.

In an effort to become an even better court-room attorney, I went back to school to specifically improve my trial skills studying this area intensively for another year. Temple University'€™s and Stetson Universityâ€'s highly regarded trial advocacy program work have helped me serve my clients well in front of juries and judges across Florida.

Licensed in to practice law in both Florida and Virginia, I have, since 1998, focused on representing Florida consumers with tort claims and insurance disputes.

Regardless of where our clients are from, we would be pleased to talk with you more about how we can be of service to you and your loved ones. Please contact us today to set up your confidential, no-cost initial consultation.

More About Me and My Community Involvement

Outside of my direct work with clients, I have had the pleasure of working with several related community organizations. Through this work, I am able to help make sure that Florida laws and public policy protect the safety of Florida consumers and help keep Florida consumer-friendly.

In an effort to stay current in the field of personal injury plaintiffâ€'s work, I have taught courses to attorneys and paralegals, authored legal articles and am active in plaintiffs-related lawyer organizations.

Some Professional Recognition

My hard and focused work on behalf of clients in the courtrooms of Florida has led to several professional honors. I have a Martindale-Hubbell AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating, the highest possible rating an attorney can achieve.

And Finally

Outside of work altogether, my favorite time is spent with my wife, Julie Luhrsen, also an attorney, and our two kids. As it is for most families, they provide the ultimate purpose and enjoyment to my life.

Please contact us at the Luhrsen Law Group to learn even more about us as attorneys and our personal injury experience. We are a family-owned business and we take pride in helping Florida families get their lives back on track after serious injuries. We offer free consultations, and we would be happy to come to you.

More About My Educational Background and My Military Service

Though Florida has long been my home, like many, I migrated to Florida from elsewhere. Raised in Virginia, I went to college in the Midwest and then returned to Virginia afterwards. My first post-college job as a products liability litigation paralegal sparked my interest in the law and led me to law school. There my legal horizons were broadened by time spent working as a teaching assistant, faculty research assistant, and intern with the Virginia Poverty Law Center.

The first hand experience and immediate opportunities to practice law were what drew me into the Army JAG Corps, but it was the time spent helping individual soldiers with their legal problems, that kept me there for eight years. In fact, among the many military awards I received during my military career, I am most proud of the American Bar Association’s 1993 Legal Assistance Distinguished Service Award which I received for the work I did in support of post-Hurricane Andrew relief efforts.

Migrating from the military to the practice of personal injury law was a natural progression for me. Having tried countless cases as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney as well doing other legal work for soldiers instilled a strong desire to help the individual. Personal injury law proved the perfect complement of these interests and in 1998, I left active duty. and with my husband, Jeff Luhrsen, and moved to Florida.

My Community Involvement

Outside the office, I spend time volunteering locally. Like many parents, I enjoy volunteering in my children'€™s schools. Since 2005, I have served on the board of Forty Carrots Family Center, a Sarasota non-profit that helps strengthen families from all walks of life. I also serve on the board of my children'€™s school, the Out-of-Door Academy.

The best part of my days are spent with my family. If I can help you and your family recapture what has been lost due to injury or if you would like to share your story with me, please contact me at Luhrsen Law Group today for a free personal injury consultation. Luhrsen Law Group is a family-owned accident law practice that welcomes injured clients in Sarasota, Bradenton, and communities throughout Florida.
