Yes, we offer a free initial consultation to anyone. We give free initial consultations every day. We can be reached by phone, email, or contact forms found on our websites. We do not set time limits on free consultations. We simply reserve the right to limit the consultation to what is reasonable, we will not give more than one free consultation regarding the same matter, and we prefer an initial consultation be done over the phone or through email before an office visit is scheduled.

Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

On workers compensation cases, we charge a 20% contingent fee in accordance with State Law.
On personal injury cases, we charge a 33.33% contingent fee and reserve the right to charge up to 40% on cases that proceed through litigation. All fees are set out in written contracts on the day of initial engagement. These fees are not negotiable.

Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Some clients who have been hurt while working due to the negligence of someone other than a coworker may be able to successfully pursue both a personal injury and a workers compensation case based upon the same event. We would prefer to represent the client in all aspects, but will at times accept on an injury case or only a workers comp case when the client already has another attorney handling the other aspects of the case.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

When you retain the Law Office of Steven A. Sigmond, your attorney will be Steven A. Sigmond. At this firm, your case will NEVER be passed off to a rookie - I mean "associate" - on the basis of "cost-effectiveness". We do have a staff, and have employed legal secretaries, law clerks, paralegals, and even associate attorneys at times. However, cases are never assigned away from Steven A. Sigmond to other individuals, only particular tasks or assignments. We believe that clients who hire a law firm for the skill and experience of a particular lawyer should get exactly that.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

We are willing to use alternative dispute resolution, including mediation or arbitration, as well as negotiation, in order to speed up the process of getting our clients the results they deserve, in almost every case. Although proud of our record of success in jury trials, we see trial work only as a means to an end. We make every possible effort to resolve every case in a fast and fair manner. However, when a negotiated resolution is not possible, we always stand ready for trial.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

We offer free consultations to the public through a variety of organizations, and free legal service to a limited number of non-profit organizations.

At the Law Office of Steven A. Sigmond, we like when our clients know their rights. The State of Illinois Publishes a free, comprehensive pamphlet explaining the workers compensation, which is always available at our office. We always offer a free initial consultation to anyone, and that can include review of documents.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

We always offer a free consultation to anyone, but only one. With over 25 years experience practicing law, I simply don't believe that anybody is well-served by attempting to represent themselves against an experienced insurance defense lawyer. That is not something that I will encourage.
