Firm Focus
Whether you're accused of a crime or feel you are being treated like a criminal by creditors, the legal process that looms ahead can seem overwhelming. You want an attorney who not only has the knowledge and the experience equal to the task, but whose energy and dedication to your cause gives you the confidence to persevere. At the Law Office of Seth D. Schraier, I offer reliable and reassuring counsel in cases involving: criminal law, bankruptcy, and divorce. My priority has, is, and always will be my clients. I keep you apprised every step of the way by quickly returning phone calls, texts and emails personally.
Firm History
In 2009 I felt that there was more that I could do to serve the community and work with clients than simply being an associate in a firm. So with this attitude, I began my solo practice, with the focus on ensuring the best client relationships instead of the highest number of clients. Since then, I have had clients from all areas of life come to me needing help in areas of divorce, bankruptcy, criminal law, landlord/tenant, and immigration, and each time I have done whatever I could to help them.
Activities and Awards
Special Assistant District Attorney for the King's County District Attorney's Office, Sex Crimes Bureau. Law Clerk with the New York State Attorney General's Office, Civil Recoveries Office Bureau.
Example Cases
I helped a consumer erase more than $175,000.00 in credit card debt by successfully filing a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy on his behalf. I helped grant a woman a divorce judgment from her husband of three years.
What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
Nolo has been helping non-attorneys and attorneys alike for years to successfully guide them through legal processes with minimal costs. But as Nolo often recommends in their legal guides, there are often times situations where it is best to still hire an attorney to handle your case, even after educating yourself on the issue. You want someone to represent you who not only has the education, but has the experience and dedication to fully focus on winning your case.
Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?
I would never say no to reviewing any document that a client has taken the time to prepare.
Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
I would never object to agreeing to coach a client who wants to represent themselves, because I am certain that at the end of the process, my client will still prefer my representation in court.
Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?
Although I personally like to work every case from start to finish, if a client would simply prefer that I only help them with one part of a case, I would not object to doing so.
What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?
I have no staff, no paralegals, nor any other attorneys in my firm. All communication and work from my firm is done solely by me. The only phone number I list is my direct cell phone line.
How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?
There are times when mediation, arbitration, and collaborative law are the best methods to resolve a case, and as a certified mediator, I can attest to the success of these methods. That said, I have found that in most of the cases I have personally represented a client on, I have not used mediation, arbitration, and collaborative law.
Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?
I currently participate in the community with a number of organizations throughout the New York City metropolitan area.
What distinguishes your law firm from others?
Very few lawyers and very few law firms these days promise quick and personal attention from their lawyer. But I want my clients to have direct and instant access to me whenever they need me. At the Law Office of Seth D. Schraier, the only phone numbers my clients have are my personal cell phone. The only e-mail addresses I give out are my personal e-mail addresses. When a client needs me, they will never have to jump through any hoops, or hope that a secretary passes on their message. They will have instant access to me and always have peace of mind that their case is being handled with all my attention and dedication.
Office Hours

Office Manager: I sometimes have requested that my girlfriend, who I live with, contact a potential client the second I get their contact information, if I am unable to do so at that moment. But her participation only extends to reaching out to leave my contact information with the potential client including my cell phone and e-mail address. Her name is Stephanie Long.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees
I take each case on its own, as each case may involve different time commitments and work. For bankruptcy cases I will typically charge $1,600 for the case, with half payable at the start of the case, and half at the conclusion. For uncontested divorce cases I will charge $1,800 for the case, with half payable at the start of the case, and half at the conclusion. For contested divorce cases, I will charge $3,000, with half at the start of the case, and half at the conclusion. Note: This may be subject to change in the future.
