The focus of our firm is bankruptcy, chapter 7 and chapter13 and divorce.

Firm History

We were started by Paul Staley in 1993 after Paul got out of Law school. From the start the practice focused on Bankruptcy and Family Law.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

We are strongly in favor of clients educating themselves on legal issues that they face. Paul wants his clients to understand their situation and be a part of the problem solving.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Reviewing documents prepared by clients doesn't really work in Bankruptcy. There are too many variables that can lead to poor outcomes.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

No.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Not in Bankruptcy but yes in Family Law.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

This is done on a case- by- case basis. We acknowledge that efficient and cost effective use of the firm's time is an obligation to our clients.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

This doesn't apply in bankruptcy cases.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

At the attorney's discretion.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

My staff and I have helped the people of San Diego in all walks of life, from a single mother get back on her feet, to the CEO. When you have a consultation with us, we can promise you is that the price that we quote it will be fair. We are not the most expensive law firm in town nor are we the cheapest. But we're certainly one of the most thorough firms you'll find. We take that hour consultation and use it to your advantage.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
