Firm Focus
The Law Office of Martin P. Bonventre focuses on two things: (1) providing aggressive criminal defense at an affordable price and (2) providing clients with the personal attention they deserve.
Firm History
The Law Office of Martin P. Bonventre opened in 2011 with the goal of offering clients a more personal and committed approach to legal representation. My clients not only receive aggressive and affordable legal representation, but they get the personal attention necessary to make them comfortable and confident.
When you are charged with a crime, your future and finances are directly affected by the attorney you choose to represent you. With so much at stake, you need an attorney who is aggressive and determined to get you the justice you deserve. You need an attorney who is focused on you and devoted to providing you with effective legal representation at an affordable price. I, Martin P. Bonventre, have made this the focus of my firm.
A bus and a car service will both get you to the same place, but the individual attention you get from a car service makes you feel confident and in control. Hiring a large firm is like paying more to ride the bus. Clients pay exorbitant fees and are treated like they are just another client, herded together with all the others.
The quality of an attorney's work should never be based on how much the client pays. I keep my expenses low by not wasting money on such expenses at ridiculous advertising campaigns, and I pass these savings onto my clients in the form of affordable rates. I handle each case personally and devote the time and effort needed to ensure my clients get quality and effective legal representation. I am an aggressive local attorney. I am ready to serve you.
Activities and Awards
NYSBA President's Law School Group Pro Bono Service Award; Professor of paralegal studies at Mildred Elley in Albany, NY.
Example Cases
1) DWI — A close friend of mine was going through rough times and made the mistake of driving home after too many drinks. It was a snowy day and he slid into the rear end of another car. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He hired me to fight for him and make sure the mistake did not ruin his life. After analyzing the papers which detailed how the police officers administered the field sobriety tests and breathalyzer, I noticed some significant issues with the police work: the police report did not acknowledge that it was snowing at the time of the accident, the field sobriety tests may not have been performed exactly according to the rules, and the breathalyzer was not properly calibrated. By showing these issues to the prosecutor, I was able to convince her that the case against my client was weak. Further, I explained that my client had sought treatment for his drinking problem and had quit drinking. Without having to spend the extra costs of going to trial, I was able to get the prosecutor to lower the charges against my friend to a traffic violation.
2) False Personation — An young woman was charged with false personation for giving a fake name to police officer after being intimidated and harassed by the officer. I explained to her that false personation is a serious crime and can have far reaching consequences. The exact progression of events that evening was incredibly important to her defense. By talking with her numerous times and accepting phone calls from her whenever she remembered more details, I was able to determine that the police officer had probably violated her constitutional rights. I researched the relevant law and presented an argument to the prosecutor advocating that the charge of false personation should be dropped because her statement to the police officer occurred after her rights had been violated. The prosecutor was persuaded by my recitation of the facts and analysis of the law, so she actually sided with me and encouraged the Judge to dismiss the case.
What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I think it is great when clients take the initiative to educate themselves on legal issues. However, in most cases the law is more complex than it seems and there are subtle nuances that are learned only through practice. Therefore, it is best to consult with an attorney.
