The Brooke Law Firm is a general practice law firm that specializes in bankruptcy, foreclosure defense and loan/mortgage modifications. Attorney John P. Brooke is here to help families like yours with any problem that life throws at you. I can also handle your family law issue, criminal case, will, real estate transaction and even town violation.

I offer free, initial consultations in my office or by telephone if you can't make it in to see me in person. My fees are generally lower than most of my competition and in most cases I can offer a payment plan for my legal services. I pride myself on excellent client satisfaction and if I cannot answer your phone call right away I will return your call as promptly as possible.

I offer a free initial consultation in my office or by telephone if you cannot come to my office.

Services Offered For Fixed Fees?

Generally, for a chapter 7 bankruptcy I charge between $1,000 and $1,250. Chapter 13's range from $3,000-$3,500 because they require much more work than a ch. 7 and are 3-5 year plans that I will be retained for.

For a loan/mortgage modification I charge between $2,500-$3,500 depending on how complicated it will be. I do not require the entire fee up front and will break down the fee into multiple installments.

For other cases, such as criminal or family court appearances, I offer an hourly rate of between $200-$300 an hour or will sometimes offer a flat fee upon request if feasible.

My law firm files chapter 7 and chapter 13 bankruptcy petitions for consumers who are facing tough times in their lives. I also handle foreclosure defense and loan/mortgage modifications.

I offer free initial, no obligation consultations in my office or by telephone if you prefer. I offer reasonable fees that are generally lower than my competition and I can even offer payment plans in most cases. I am flexible with my office hours because I understand your life does not operate on a 9:00-5:00 schedule and many people need to meet after work. I handle all the work myself so you can rest assured an experienced, knowledgeable attorney will be on your case from start to finish. There are no secretaries or junior staff involved here to mess up your case like most other large "mill" type firms use.

I pride myself on excellent client satisfaction on will be here to answer your questions when you call. I will return all phone calls the same business day you call, or first thing the next day if it is after hours.

I also handle family law cases such as custody, visitation, child support, violations, orders of protection and so forth..whatever you need filed in family court I will take on. I realize that many of my clients have issues in their lives outside the realm of financial hardship so I can also prepare your will, help you sell or buy a home, or take on your divorce case. If you have a problem that is outside the realm of my expertise I have colleagues that I can refer you to in all areas of the law.

Is your firm willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

I can help you with on area of a case if you chose to take on the rest yourself. After all, most of us aren't made of money and like to spend a fortune on legal bills.

What are your policies about dividing work within the firm to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

I am a sole practitioner that does all the work himself from start to finish. My fees are very reasonable compared to most other law firms on Long Island because I have less overhead and I believe in helping people move past this tough time in their life without charging an arm and a leg.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

I use alternative dispute resolution whenever I have the chance to do so. I usually see this arise in a family law or divorce situation. More and more I am using it in the loan modification and foreclosure defense side of my practice.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

I am an active participant in the Suffolk County Pro Bono Foreclosure project. I attend foreclosure settlement conferences on behalf of the pro bono project to help homeowners who cannot afford an attorney modify their mortgage and stay in their home.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

I offer low fee services because my overhead tends to be less than many other firms out there and I am very knowledgeable about the areas of law that I practice. I will answer or return all phone calls within one business day, if not the same day.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I believe a client that is an educated client will realize quickly the reality of his/her situation and what can reasonably be done to accomplish the goal at hand. A client that can ask a thoughtful and insightful question about an area of the law will tend to grasp the severity of their specific circumstance. If you are educated about your problem and what can be done there is less disappointment if you hit a few bumps along the way.

Is your firm willing to review documents prepared by clients?

In some cases I will allow clients to bring in documents for review that they are submitting themselves either to a bank or to the court free of charge at the initial consultation. In some other cases I charge a nominal fee if the person will not ultimately become a client and wants to handle the legal problem on their own.

Is your firm willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

My office presently does not have the ability to coach clients who want to represent themselves. I do offer free consultations and clients will take a lot of useful information from that experience if they choose to represent themselves.

After working for a high-volume bankruptcy, loan modification and personal injury law firm in Suffolk County I decided to hang up my own shingle and establish the Brooke Law Firm in 2009. I have also recently been appointed as a Special Assistant District Attorney for the Village of Ocean Beach on Fire Island.

While in law school attorney John P. Brooke, Esq. interned for the Honorable Senior Judge Leonard D. Wexler in the Eastern District of New York Federal Court. I was able to hone my legal skills by drafting numerous judicial opinions and advising the Judge of important changes in the law.

I participate in the Suffolk County pro bono foreclosure settlement conference project helping homeowners who can't afford attorney representation stay in their homes.

I am a sole practitioner that handles all cases from start to finish. My fees are very reasonable compared to what many other law firms charge because I believe in helping my clients and maintaining a lasting relationship. I routinely get referrals from previous clients and have clients come back for other legal issues they are facing. I believe that if you take care of someone and treat them fairly your kindness and patience will pay off ten fold.
