Firm Focus

George's primary practice involves Education/Special Education Law and Family law, as well as Mediation and estate planning.

In order to be an effective attorney one needs to be able to communicate with people. In addition to over 20 years of experience as an attorney, George has over 35 years as a teacher. He knows how to help people understand Legalese and enjoys doing. While his clients range from dog bite victims to those involved in boat collisions, his expertise is in the areas of Education Law and Family Law. Simply put he has been involved in Special Education as a parent, teacher, and attorney. He knows what schools can do, should do, will do, and must do. George also realizes that "one size fits all education" doesn't "fit all" and he is committed to making schools work for all kids. His experience also makes him highly suited to family law, divorce, custody, support and property issues arising out of marriage, as well as adoption, and his connections with families make it highly unlikely that you will have a concern that he hasn't experienced in one way or another. It should also be noted that George is a sole practitioner who is very down to earth/informal. He has a home office, and keeps a small case load.

Firm History

George has been practicing law since 1990.

Activities and Awards

Besides practicing law, I am a high school teacher, law school professor, and charter boat operator.

Legal Aid

Example Cases

A five year old hearing impaired child was unable to get a classroom aid who knew sign language. After being subjected to a meeting with 12 school district professionals we were able to persuade them that the aid was necessary.

Two brothers purchased a house and had a falling out. One was handled the paperwork and the other handled the physical maintenance. They got in an argument and things were said that should not have been. In less than an hour it became clear that each wanted a 50/50 split and no more. The issue was resolved, and they went back to being brothers.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Besides teaching in High School, Elementary School, Junior High School, I am also Dean of Instruction at "Northwestern California School of Law." I have been teaching people how to become lawyers for over 20 years and a number of my students have written answers that the bar examiners have chosen as models. I know how to teach, and enjoy doing it. I welcome clients who want to learn. I also devote a certain amount of my practice to "Limited Representation" where I may help with forms, advise, negotiate, and appear in court. Gladly will I tailor your services to what you are unable to do on your own.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Absolutely.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Definitely.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes, and I frequently do.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

We are a one person firm, and while we may work with other attorneys, generally most work is performed by an attorney. However rates are adjusted for paralegal work.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Most of the time in family law, and whenever possible in other areas.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

We are a member of the Sonoma County Limited Means Panel, and also do Pro Bono clinics.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

We are very real. As a teacher, charter boat operator, husband, father, and grandfather I know how real people live and what their needs are. I am not concerned with "show" but only making things work for my clients.

However when establishing retainers I want to work with clients, and be reasonable to both of us.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
