What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

Clients should endeavor to learn as much about their legal rights as they can. However, people with potential family law concerns should always consult with one of our qualified family law attorneys due to the level of complexity involved and legal expertise needed. This is why we have a free comprehensive website with laws and family law information.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

Yes. However, because family law is a complex area requiring legal expertise, clients receive better results when they rely on their attorney's knowledge and draftsmanship. Oftentimes it is far more costly for the client to prepare his or her own legal documents than to simply have an attorney to handle the drafting.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Yes, within certain confines.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes, on a case by case basis.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

Our firm strives to provide the most cost effective representation for our clients. Therefore, to the extent possible, our policy is to divide work among partners, associates, and paralegals to meet the needs of our clients better.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

Our firm believes the best choice for our clients is to resolve legal issues as amicably as possible. As such, we encourage our clients to use mediation, arbitration, and collaborative law to resolve their cases. Our firm is also active in the Mecklenburg County Collaborative Law Group.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

Yes. Hatcher Law Group has been selected as the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Outstanding Small Firm Pro Bono Award winner of the year by the Mecklenburg County Bar Association. Hatcher Law Group also received the Small Law Firm Pro Bono Service Award from the North Carolina Bar Association in 2010. United Family Services of Mecklenburg County recognized Hatcher Law Group as an Outstanding Law Firm for its pro bono work. A majority of our pro bono hours are dedicated to representing victims of domestic violence who are seeking restraining orders against their abusers. We are proud to assist needy clients in an area that can make a huge difference in so many lives, especially at a time when they need help the most. For more information about our pro bono services and community involvement, please visit our website at http://www.hatcherlawgroup.com/news-and-events.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

Simply put, we care about our clients. We are a firm dedicated to the practice of family law. For more information about who we are and the services we have to offer, visit our website at www.hatcherlawgroup.com.

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
