Firm Focus

My firm focuses on criminal defense, civil litigation and small estate planning. I know that times are tough so my goal is to provide high quality legal representation at reasonable prices to the people of the Portland Metro Area including Clark County.

Firm History

I formed Dore Law Firm, LLC in the summer of 2011. I've always worked in helping professions and finally saw an opportunity to do what I love - working with the law - and provide assistance to people who might not otherwise get any.

Example Cases

State v. B - DUI - The officer saw my client stopped at a stoplight holding a cell phone to her ear. She took the phone away from her ear before moving again. The officer stopped her because of her cell phone use and ended up arresting her for DUI. Washington law only prohibits holding a cell phone to your ear in a moving vehicle. We challenged the stop and the case was dismissed.

State v. G - DUI - The officer said he saw my client cross over the fog line once and through the gore point (the area triangular area at the end of an exit ramp). He pulled my client over and charged him with DUI. We challenged the stop and, because nothing my client did caused a danger to anyone else, all evidence was suppressed and the prosecutor dismissed the case.

What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?

I like to have a client that is knowledgeable about the legal issues in his or her case. A client often comes to the law with fresh eyes and can come up with creative legal arguments. I've won cases based on clients' ideas.

Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?

I'm absolutely willing to review documents prepared by clients. I'm happy to help clients access the legal system any way I can.

Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?

Absolutely. I'm happy to help clients access the legal system any way I can.

Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?

Yes. Clients set the goals and I do my best to help them reach those goals. If my client only wants my help in part of their case, I'm happy to limit the scope of my representation as they see fit.

What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?

I am a one-attorney office. I keep my work cost-effective for my clients by working quickly, efficiently and charging more reasonable rates than other attorneys.

How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?

I use mediation, arbitration, negotiation and collaborative law to resolve cases whenever it will be in the best interest of my clients.

Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?

I participate in the Oregon State Bar's Modest Means program to help low-income clients gain access to the judicial system.

What distinguishes your law firm from others?

My primary goal is to help my clients reach their goals. I listen to my clients and care about what happens to them.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees

I believe flat-fee pricing is a benefit to everyone. Clients have a clear expectation of the costs in their case and I can avoid delivering unpleasant surprises later. The flat fee will vary depending on the type of case, the complexity of the case and the number of counts. Traffic infractions are usually around $400; misdemeanors are $1,500-$2,000; felonies are start at $3,000. My flat fees are negotiable to a certain extent and I give discounts for multiple count cases. I'm happy to discuss payment plans.

Hourly Rates

$150.

Free Initial Consultation?

Yes, the first half hour consultation is free.

Typical Retainer

$1,000 is my typical retainer for hourly work. I ask for this much to start because it covers a wide array of costs in addition to my hourly wage.

Understanding Fees

Nolo's Licensing Check

Attorneys have passed a licensing check. Nolo has confirmed that every member attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with the state agency that licenses lawyers upon joining the directory.

Directory lawyers are required to notify Nolo immediately if they become the subject of any disciplinary action by any state licensing agency.
